So on Monday she tested in the high risk category for the billirubin (jaundice) and she had to have a billy blanket at home phototherapy. It is very distressing to see your baby with a big tube, light thing strapped to her....but we were diligent. Well we went back on Tuesday for blood work and her level remained the same - it didn't go up so that is good but didn't go down so the doctor said we had to do two blankets - one on her front and one on her back. So we did that all day and all night - and Nora is such a trooper - she slept and ate great all night and didn't fuss even though she cannot be comfortable with all these machines going and things strapped to her. So today we went for blood work - today is the 5th day after birth and the peak day for billirubin......her level went down It's at like 16 now which is in the intermediate/high level - not high risk....so that is great!!!! If she went above 20 she would have had to go to the hospital....so it's highly unlikely she'll end up in the hospital now since the levels should naturally go down now that she's past the peak day after today.
So - we continue the blankets until tomorrow at 11 and then Friday morning go for another blood draw. Hopefully we'll be free of the billirubin monster by then. Please continue to send T&P's girls!
Thanks!
