Drake is almost 6 months old now (can you believe that?!?!), and we are starting some sleep training. It sure is tiring, but I know it will be so worth it when he consistently sleeps through the night. He has slept through plenty of times, but he also knows that if does wake up and want to nurse, I'll let him. We are working on getting him back to sleep with his binkie (which he LOVES), and the pick up/put down method. Basically, when he fusses we pick him up and soothe him to calm him down, then lay him down as soon as he's calm. We do this over and over, until he finally drifts off back to sleep. Last night he had his last bottle at 8pm (I was working), and then nursed at 6:30 this morning. He was up FIVE times in between. He doesn't go back into as deep of a sleep if I would've nursed him. I think that's why he was up five different times. He is a much happier baby in the morning if he does sleep solidly through the night; a complete giggle box. We are using the Baby Whisperer book, and really like it. I didn't want to CIO, but I do FIRMLY believe in sleep training and consistency. So, here's hoping that tonight will only be four times of getting up. I'll let you know. If this works for us, maybe some others could benefit. It seems as if there are many of us struggling with sleep issues right now. And of course with it being Father's day weekend, I'm the one getting up every time. Usually DH and I split the getting up throughout the night to put the binkie back in his mouth. I'm being sweet and letting him sleep!

Yeah for sleep training Nikki...sounds like you are doing the right thing! You will LOVE it when he sleeps thru the night and goes to bed good at bedtime as he grows up....our son is like the best little sleeper ever....I can only remember one night that he fussed to go to bed (when I was on bedrest for a weekend). I did the Ferber method with him and will do it again with Nora. It's really not CIO totally cause you go in to soothe them and reassure them you're there very often...also you're not suppose to do it if your child is choking, puking etc. DS never cried or fussed that bad so it worked for us. It only took a few nights of him even fussing and then he was good to go. I already got my book out to refresh myself! I want her sleeping as much thru the night as possible when we go on vacation in Oct!

Keep us posted on how it goes!!!

I don't know how, but somehow I ended up with two babies that both slept like angels through the night starting at six weeks. Violet sleeps from 8:00 pm to about 9:00 am the next morning.

Hopefully you'll be saying the same about Drake soon!

This is the method I intend to use when Kirsty turns 6 months, they don't recommend it for any younger as the baby gets too upset... BTDT and it doesn't work! Keep me posted Nikki, I'm very interested as to whether it works. Kirsty is up 2-3 times still. Sometimes she is up for the day at 2/3am

I'm reading up on the Baby Whisperer forums and I'm going to check out the book. I don't think I can "schedule" a baby as young as Matthew but I am trying to get more of a routine going and help him go down for naps and bedtime better since he gets overtired and fights going down.

Good luck with Drake and I hope you are both getting better sleep soon!

Sounds like good training..

I personally had an easy time getting Adriana to sleep through the night when she was 3 months old.. I just pray my next child is that easy.. lol

Conner has just started getting up again once a night. He used to sleep from 8 pm to around 8 am...now hes up anywhere between 2-5 to eat and then its heck trying to get him back to sleep. I don't know if its another growth spurt, if maybe I should give him more formula or whatever but...I miss sleep Good luck with your sleep training!
