There is a photography board, but I know alot of our grads are picture taking fools I want a new camera for my birthday but would like suggestions...

This is my current camera:

Amazon.com: Nikon Coolpix S60 10MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom (Crimson Red): Electronics

One of the things I don't like about it is the length of the flash. It flashes like 4 times before taking the pictures. By that time, Henry has already been blinded and his eyes are closed. If I turn the flash off, most of the pictures become grainy or blurry.

So I need a camera that has a short flash. I also realize Henry is only going to move faster as he become mobile, so I want one that takes pictures quickly.

I don't want a large camera. I love that the Nikon I have fits easily in my purse.

It's a great camera. I've had it for almost 3 years and it would be nice to get another Nikon. It just doesn't seem "kid friendly."

Before you buy a new one may I make a suggestion on the one you have----try using the sport setting when taking his picture. See if that works better for you.

Otherwise I love LOVE LOVE my Amazon.com: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4S 8.1MP Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver): Electronics
(there is actually a newer one in the Panasonic Lumix family, I have the last year model --the one above). It takes great video and Its the camera I use for my every day photos on my blog mainly....I save the big guy for tourist locations and big events. I have owned now 4 of the panasonic lumix and loved everyone of them!

i only have an DSLR (nikon d90) so Im of no help, I would love a point and shoot camera too...

The reason the flash goes off a few times is you have it set on red eye flash. Look in your manual, it should tell you how to turn it on (then you can figure out how to turn it off LOL)

I agree that you should be able to fix the issue you're having with the flash being annoying by changing your settings.

Our P&S is a canon powershot G9 and we love it. It's a little big for a P&S I think but definitely no where near as big as a dslr. You can still shoot with it in manual mode which is nice too. Takes great video... we're really happy with it for a P&S.
