into the field full of girls....BAAAAAD mistake. Mind you shes about 3 months old.

She first took off, and after everyone chased her and momma, she ended up diving through the fence (2 strands of hot wire) and the poor girl ended up on the other side of the fence in the brush!! Ok, no problem, we just turn off the fence and go get her.....right? A funny thing happens when you touch an electric fence.....it HURTS. (She's already felt it twice, once before when her mom shoved her into it while trying to get her away from the other horses *they couldn't even touch her, they were behind another fence...long story*) So this poor little 3 month old filly is like TERRIFIED of hotwire, and were trying to get her to walk underneith it (while the barn owners, whom this was HER idea by the way, held the hotwire up) So finally steve tricks her and out she comes. Ok, good. Now Ive got ahold of baby and horses keep coming up to sniff her....Terrified baby, curious mares = oh lord!
So as Im trying very carefully to walk her back up to the barn, the horses are like swarming us. Steve is on one end of them, Im in the middle holding onto Caly by her halter and lead, and Cheryl is on the other side. There is probably 7 mares (well 6 mares and one VERY gay gelding who thinks hes a girl) swarming by baby, then as fast as it happens all I hear is "BETH GET OUT OF THERE" and I was instantly knocked down. I didnt even know I was down till I looked up and saw hooves flying twards me. All I could scream was "GET CALY AWAY!!!" I managed to get up and Cheryl is like OMG OMG OMG, I keep saying Im fine but Caly isnt allowed out with the mares EVER again!! All the while Im walking, I didnt feel anything, I just hurt all over. So we get Caly and momma into the indoor arena, let them loose and Im looking over their bodies for injurys (NONE THANK GOD!!!) Cherly comes up and starts asking are you hurt, where do you hurt...and I say well, I think my back and my ankle. I go off and continue to clean stalls (my horses, I have/had 3 days off, thank god right?) While Im cleaning I rolled up my pant legs so they wouldnt get dirty and by my right knee Ive got about 5 broken blood vessels, swelling, Caly stepped on my right ankle, thats swollen and brused and how I dont know, the back of my left knee is soooooo swollen and brused I cant bend it.

So here I sit the next morning, still running over everything in my mind. Cheryl told me before this (as well as my 16 years of experiance) "Dont get in the middle of them" Yes, this is true, but this is my 3 month old filly were talking about. Shes my baby, Im not going to just stand back and watch her take a beating, if I can protect her, I WILL. So with my injury's, my perfect baby girl got away with NO injury's! That is what was/is most important to me.

So I guess the moral of the story is, once you become a mother, you will be a mother forever, no matter the species/breed, right?

*Sorry this is long, I was just venting/typing a novel *

Awww glad that Caly is okay. I know how nerve-racking it can be introducing a new horse to a pasture. And let me say I agree with Caly that electric fence is no fun to walk under. I got zapped on the forehead for not ducking low enough under a fence that I thought was turned off when I was heading into a pasture to go get my horse. Ouch! Thankfully I was okay.

I hope your recovery is a quick one! Bumps and bruises can definitely be painful!
