We are going to be taking a short break!!!! DH and I had a long talk today and I talked to him about how important it is for me to be a SAHM or only work part time. We decided that if from the moment I get pregnant to the moment the baby is born if we put $750 in our savings account each month we could save $6750. DH makes enough to make our mortgage payment, car payment and all of our bills(he does it right now because I have some debt I am paying off) and we use the saved money to cover all baby expenses like formula/food, diapers and all other monthly baby things(we will not use this money for baby start up items such as stroller/crib...etc) I think it could work. The reason we think we may wait is because I am just about to finish paying off our furniture debt and my visa. I would like to have at least 9 months to save up, so that means we would start trying again at the end of august. I really hope I can do it, it would be so awesome to start our famiy out on a positie finacial note. I have already started taking my Femara this month so we are going to give it a shot so we don't waste he $125 the meds cost. I am not a good saver, so this is going to be really tough for me....Wish me luck!!!!!
Anyways, if you made it to the end Thank you!!!!

GL! It sounds like a good plan. I'm not a good saver either. With your goal in mind you have good motivation.

It sounds like a wonderful plan! If you are not already doing so, I would suggest that you keep track of your finances on paper or electronically so that you can see where you're at and if you are meeting your targets. You could do a projection of where you'd like to be so you can compare it to your actual savings.
Good luck!!! You can do it!!

It's very good of you to do this, even though it may be hard to wait (believe me, I know!). But it'll be the best for the baby in the end, so it'll be worth it!! Good luck!

That sounds like a good plan! DH and I did the same thing, though we didn't save that much... We wanted to make sure we could afford all the "stuff" a baby needs instead of depending on other people to give us stuff at our shower. Basically anything we do get at our shower will be a great surprise and any extra money left in our savings will just sit there and accumulate for whatever else we need it for... Good luck!

Great plan! Does your bank offer the forced savings options like any change from a purchase is moved to savings automatically? My old bank moved $1 to my savings every time I used my debit card. My current bank takes $25 every paycheck and moves it to savings for me. It doesn't sound like much but I'm well over $1,000 already. And I try to move whatever money I have left at the end of a pay period (the day before I get paid) over to savings. I would recommend reading Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey too! I know you can do this!

Sounds like a great plan Morgan!! I'm sure if you remind yourself what it is for every month, than you wont have a problem sticking to it.

Sounds like a GREAT plan! I agree with Mari keep track of it somehow, i used to he HORRIBLE at saving money but I came up with this way of saving and actually seeing the payoff (i.e writing down how much I put into savings each check) and it is actually fun for me to save money now! I have this whole "budget" sheet that I made and I put every penny of my money somewhere, whether its savings, baby fund, car repair/oil change fund, splurge fund (movies, makeup, clothes) etc. Its so much fun planning it all out at the beginnning of the month and then seeing how much I can save that month. And then by putting $5 or $10 here and there into your splurge fund or your eating out fund or oil change or whatever then you never have to take that money out all at once...you already have it!! (Sorry i got a little carried away Budgeting and saving has seriously become a "hobby" for me! Haha its fun!

Great plan!!! It was one of our goals before TTC was to get out of debt and have a certain amount in savings...... I still can't even tell you how much easier it has made things and how much more secure we feel knowing we have that money tucked away with baby on the way. GREAT GREAT PLAN!

It's hard to think of it as debt!! I guess in my mind debt is like thousands and thousands of dollars and I am only in debt less than $1500. We will really only be taking 1 month off and that is the month of August. It is can totally be done!!!! Im really excited. In BC Canada where I used to live, you got 1 year maternity leave and I really had me heart set on that, now I think we finally have a plan to make that happen.

It took us a long time to consolidate, then pay off all of our credit card debt and we have NEVER run up any credit cards since. It's such a relief. You are so smart to take advantage of the time you still have to get to a place of financial security.
