Where do you get them done? I think we want to have them done at 3 months, 6, 9, and 1 year, so some kind of package would be good. I want quality pics but hopefully not paying an arm and a leg. I think my brother and SIL used either Sears or JC Penney and were happy with them.

Any suggestions?

Ive used Sear's both times and didn't like them. I think If I get them done anywhere again I will try JC Penny's.

We did 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, & 9 months. The 2 weeks & 6 month pictures were done by Celebrity Kids. They are super expensive. The 3 month & 6 month we had done at JC Penney. They are reasonable and good enough. If I had more money to spend I would pay a professional photographer (like Breanna!) to meet on location. I would love to do that for his 1st birthday party.

I get Gemma's done at JCPenney. They're good enough for my tastes. Although I do think I will get a professional photog to do a Gemma/family shoot for her 5 year pics. That's kind of a big one in my mind. (Plus hopefully Shane will officially be in the picture by then!).

I just found out my bro and SIL used JC Penny as well and thought they were okay. We may go that route and then find someplace nicer for maybe the 1 year photos or a family photo sometime.

Is it worth it to sign up for the membership at JCP? Looks like it is $40 for 2 years. No sitting fees, $10 off each portrait purchase. But they have a coupon online for no sitting fees and free 8x10.

We've done JC Penny, Walmart and Sears when Seamus was younger the JC Penny and Walmart ones sucked and the Sears ones were ok. We just did Kierans first ones(2mo old) at Sears and I wasn't too thrilled with them. They are on my facebook if you want to see them, I dont want to bombard people here with pictures any more

I think it depends on the portrait studios that are near you. It makes a huge difference as to the kind of person that is staffed for taking pictures of small children successfully. Some people swear by Sears but the one by us sucks! Other people hate JC Penny but the one by us is great! Unfortunately its just something we had to feel out on our own.

I was going to say, it depends on the people who work there. The sears near me has always done a really good job, and I've always been happy. PLus I like that you can buy photos online, so you can take your time deciding what colors, pictures styles you want. Walmart is horrible, don't even bother. I had a photoshoot for $10 deal, so had some pictures done there, and I threw them all out. They were blurry and extremely poor quality.

You can't beat the price of JC Pennys or Sears...but you sure can beat the quality. Personally, I would find a newer photographer on Craigslist. As a photographer, the quality of Penny's/Sears KILLS me being that they are "professional studios".

What about those children's photo studios in the mall? I can think of what they are called....Picture People? Something like that. Their quality seems to be a lot better than the department stores.

I don't know how much Sears/Penny's/etc. cost for portraits and fortunately I won't have a reason to ever have to look into that... but I would say the same thing as Breanna and that you guys should look for an up & coming photographer on Craigslist where you'll get a disc of images and print what you like/want. You also won't be limited on poses, back drops etc.

Aww, thanks! I looove Oliver's newborn pics, but i know they were pricy. We paid $340 for three 8x10s when we had our family pics done. UGH! That was dumb. You would think that I of all people would know better and could get a better deal, ya know? haha.

Shannon, I think it is a great idea to go the more affordable route and then splurge a bit on a nice family pic or a 1 year portrait.

I get Adriana's pictures done at Sears and they've all turned out great.. But Adriana was always good when the pictures were taken.. They always comment how easy she was to photograph..

I did try JC Penny's and I wasn't to thrilled with them.. I love that Sears offers a free Classic wall portrait, which I think is a 10 x 13.

I haven't tried the expensive Photography studios.. My DH is way to cheap to let me got there.. lol But I take lots of pictures of Adriana with my DSLR and the shots are just as good as if I go to a studio..

My advice is that if you go to Sears or Jcpenny.. Go early in the morning during the work week.. They usually have no other customers and you get things done in a quick manner.. I'm usually in and out in less then one hour..

Here's a picture of Adriana that was taken at Sears..

Christmas

We've used both JC Penny and Sears with DS and we always loved the pics...however we just took both kids to a local photographer on Thursday and I liked that experience better - the cost was about the same but she was more professional and creative. She offers packages for "Baby's first year" so she does packages for sessions at birth, 3, 6, 9 months and then at a year. Probably many do cause this is traditionally how parents get their kids pics done. You could google photographers in your area. I got the name of our photographer from the local parents magazine...she specializes in infant/baby/kid pics. I can't wait to get them....they turned out so cute as we viewed them on the computer. Good luck!

I have no experience as to where to go, but I just wanted to share that there is Kiddie Kandids inside alot of BRU stores. Everyone that I've talked to about their pictures say they won't go anywhere else and they love the pics! They focus on babies and children, so they know how to deal with them better to get good pics. Plus you get the pics the same day! Don't know if anyone has any experience with them, but you might want to look into it. I'm not sure how expensive they are.
