I don't know how many of you remember back in Jan-Feb, my dad was diagnosed with dementia and he's been living in assisted living ever since. Well he fell last Wednesday b/c he didn't use his walker. He was fine the first 24 hours, completely normal, then started acting badly like he did when his antipyschotic meds were too high. Well the meds were fine and he started improving a bit so my mom thought it was okay to wait to take him to the dr for his regular visit today. She took him in and once he got to the dr's office was suddently being completely out of it. They did a stat CT scan and he has a brain bleed in between his skull and his brain. They went to the ER at a larger hospital and they are going to drill a hole in the back of his head to relieve to the bleeding and pressure. After that I *think* he should be fine and back to his normal, which is not normal, but you know what I mean.
I feel so badly for my mom because I know she is going to feel super guilty for not taking him in after his fall. She was already second guessing her decision before and now this and I know she is doing her best to take care of him.
Please pray my dad will be okay. I'm calling later to see how it went and I think we are going to try to go up to the hospital tomorrow.

That is so sad. I do remember back when he was diagnosed and you talking about him. I feel bad for you mom because like you said she is probably taking it really hard and second guessing her decision. T&P's for you dad AND your mom...

He's in the ICU now waiting to see the neurologist. They said he may not need surgery, they may be able to keep him there for a few days and let the swelling go down on its own.

Oh no! I will absolutely keep both of your parents in my prayers... how rough for both of them! This guy, Red, who lived at my Granny's place had a fall and hit his head and an ambulance was called (where she lives its mandatory if you hit your head) and they gave him a look over and he declined further treatment. About an hour later he died from a brain bleed. I'm not saying this to scare you because it sounds like at this point your dad is in good care and everything will be fine within a couple days. I'm just saying that it's SO EASY to assume everything is perfectly fine... even the paramedics didn't make this guy go to the hospital or anything -- they agreed with him that he was probably okay and obviously he wasn't. I'm glad your dad isn't (I'm guessing) on any blood thinners or anything that would make the situation worse. This so isn't your mom's fault... pretty much everyone would agree that if he's seemingly okay and has an appointment soon anyway that it'd be fine. I hope she doesn't beat herself up over it. I'm glad it's looking like he won't need the surgery and they can just keep an eye on him.

Actually he IS on blood thinners (Plavix) so thank goodness he is doing okay right now. I think they are supposed to reevaluate tomorrow and see if he need surgery but for now they don't think he does.
