Where are you going to deliver, or where did you deliver?
With DS I was in the hospital. Back then it was just a remodeled and updated version of the same layout and same floor. But now they just recently build on a new wing to the hospital and moved the labor and delivery and mother baby units over there. I'm thinking it is similar to what Kyle said about one room does it all now and all private....but I could be wrong. I'm gonna go to the website now and look it up. I was just wondering what you all are doing, or did. With Brayden I was in a delivery room, then after a couple hours moved the the mother baby unit but there were no priv rooms open so I was in a room witha lady who had TWINS and then I finally got moved to a priv room the last night.

Ill have my labor, delivery, and post room all the same. Its what I LOVE about where Im delivering. Its in a hospital but its a "birth center" I love it there. The rooms are soooo big and private. Everytime Ive been on the floor its been oober quiet and peaceful! I cant wait to have my baby girl there, cuz I think its going to be an amazing experience. Ive met alot of the nurses too. Theres only 2 that I dont like, so Im not real worried about them either.

Our hospital calls the L&D a Birthing Center. We have one room to labor in(They are very nice) and then we get moved to a Post-Pardum room some are private some are shared. With Seamus this is what I did, with Kieran I was in a labor room, then the OR then the PP room. Both times I had private PP rooms.
They were in a rush and over all rude when I had Seamus(I filed a complaint, the nurses were extremely rude the 5days I was there). With Kieran I went to recovery then to the PP room and the nurses were very nice, helping as much as I wanted/needed

With Curtis I was in a beautiful room by myself for laboring and delivering. It had a shower and such. Then I was whisked away into a room with other ladies. I had a bed, with a little tiny night stand and a curtain. Just enough room for a chair and Curtis' little bed thingy. There were four other woman in there, and we shared a bathroom. half of them were either doing a 24 hour urine test, and the other was struggling to keep her twins alive in her belly. it was HORRIBLE. She cried every time Curtis or any other baby cried. I felt SO bad for her. Ugh. Just horrible.
With Dustin I had my very own BEAUTIFUL room. I had a computer with full internet access and TV, radio etc etc. My own fridge. My own bathroom with a shower. All of baby's equipment was in there but was tidily put away in a room until it was needed. Lots of cupboard space. We also stayed in the room for labor, delivery and recovery. It had a chair that turned into a bed as well as a few rocking chairs. BEAUTIFUL I tell ya! Right out side was a blanket warmer with full 24/7 access, and a fridge with sandwiches, milk, juices and freezies, again accessible 24/7. They encouraged me to drink and eat Baby NEVER left our room. They did ALL the tests in our room with us present at all times.
It was HEAVEN. I can't wait to have more babies there!

I was at a small hospital (really small, but very modern and voted one of the top 100 hospitals in the country!) I had my own labor/deliver room, and then was moved to my own private post partum room after the birth. They never rushed me to move and let us sleep through the night in the delivery room. Both of my private rooms were good size and had their own bathroom/shower/couch/bed etc.
I loved my hosital and plan to deliver there again. They don't have an NICU, but I'm not worried about that unless my next pregnancy is considered higher risk.

I'll be delivering in a military medical center. Its a great hospital with a NICU and everything I'd need. Only issue is its an hour away...not in traffic. But that hours drive is through one of the worst most congested traffic belts in the US....so it could easily take 2 hrs or so if baby decides to come in the daytime.
So I'm hoping for a midnight labor!

With Taylor I was in a hospital room and I labored and delivered in one room and then had a recovery room. I didn't really care for the hospital. I LOVED my whole birth experience and the hospital where I had Rylie. I labored, delivered, and recovered in one room, used the shower as long as I wanted with monitoring from a doppler and was occasionally hooked up to the machine, they did ALL tests in our room with us present, and it's required to room in with your baby and they very rarely came in to check on me... maybe 3 times after I had her and then to bring me food and that was it. When we have #3 I plan on delivering there again even though I will have moved back into the county where I had Taylor. I will also DEFINITELY see midwives again

I forgot they have the nicu here too and the shower and stuff in the labor room------Baby can stay but they took him from me to do tests and stuff and also highly suggested I get some rest so they'd take him at night until he needed to nurse but I could have kept him. I'm glad I didn't since they told me he got really choked on some gunk in his throat and had to be sunctioned.....he could've died!
2hrs in traffic....whoa!

I had a private room (luxury hotel room!). After labor, delivery, & recovery I was moved up a floor to another private room with baby. I stayed there until we went home.

At my hospital, i'll be laboring and delivering in one private room -- and recovering in my own private room. My L&D room has a shower I can use/sit in, they have wireless monitoring if i ask for it before someone else does, and baby never leaves me for more than an hour (has to go to nursery for mandatory hearing/vision/PKU test) but DH or myself can go with.

The first time, I labored and recovered in one room, was suppose to say for post care, but they needed the bigger room for another lady in labor, so I got moved to another REALLY small room. Both rooms had a shower and a toilet. I could bring in any food I wanted, but if I wanted the hospital food, I had to order from the cafeteria, kinda a pain if your hungry like right then.
The 2nd time, different hospital (THANK GOD) I stayed in the same room the entire time. Even if I had labored in a bigger room (I had a repeat c-section so they gave me a smaller but still good sized room) they dont move you. the hospital I deliver at is like the freaking Marriott of hospitals! I LOVE it!! Food in the fridge, soda, water, juice, milk whenever you wanted it. They had set meal times which was nice, I didnt have to worry about when Id be hungry and how long the cafeteria would take. I also had a fridge in my room, I didnt have one at the hospital where I had Ian.
I could go on and on about the hospital I had morgan at I LOVE it! They never took the baby away except for when she had jaundice and they offered to have her in the nursery during that time, and bring her back to feed. I enjoyed this very much because when Ian had jaundice, the 12x12 room they had me in *no joke it was tiny* they expected me to house Ian's bili lights and everything, it was nerve wracking! when I had Morgan, it was very laid back, very mom and baby friendly!!

We still haven't for certain chosen our hospital. The two best in our area are about 30 minutes and 45 minutes away (without traffic). I was told that this is fine for a first child, but like Erin I hope for a midnight labor!
Both are similar. Private birthing rooms which include a tub for laboring and/or delivery. All the monitors are connected to the nurse's office, so you are allowed to labor with your partner/family and not have someone standing over you all the time. After that, you are moved to a different room where baby stays with you. I'm not 100% sure if they are private or not, but since I don't pay a dime for any of it I won't complain.

Sharing a PP room would be hard!! youd just get your baby to sleep and someone elses starts crying and wakes yours up! how frustrating!!

I wish I could do a freestanding birthing center, but those are "illegal" in Illinois. I hate it when legislators (or should I say, doctor/hospital lobbyists) make my decisions for me. The hospital looks nice enough and has some good amenities, and I'm a fan of staying in one private room the whole time, so we'll see how it goes.
