My first acupuncture appointment was on tuesday. I found out my insurance covers it so I thought I would give it a try! Anything to help me out sounds like a good idea to me
I went in and had a 90 min review of history---which includes EVERYTHING--like even little things like how often my lips get chapped etc. I felt very reviewed! LOL Then they did a tongue assessment-where they just look at your tongue to see how your body systems are functioning (yeah they started to lose me here! ). After that and a pulse assessment (they checked my pulse in both my wrists in 3 spots). Apparently I have a strong Qi issue with my spleen. (don't ask me what exactly that means because I have no idea! LOL)
Here is what I found online--not sure what KIND of Qi spleen issue (I will ask next appointment!) The Three Treasures and Women's Treasure - Giovanni Maciocia Chinese Medicine UK
So after my assessments it was time for treatment. I was placed in a big chair (if your not prego you lay on a massage table type thing). First I got two types of aromatheraphy placed on my chest and forehead (they were combos so I don't remember what was in them) and then I had many needles put in my ears/head/feet and then one in each wrist and knee. They were not painful at all-felt like a misquito bite and once in I didn't even notice them. Then I was left to sit for about 45min in the nice room with relaxing music playing.
Now I really didn't think this would do much honestly. But my major complaints were occasional constipation, feeling hot when sleeping and warm during the day, lack of appitite, occasional indegestion and some tail bone discomfort (remember I had previously broken my tail bone and my midwife thinks I will re-break it with pushing ). Anyway after the appointment I was very hungry--we went out and I ate a ton! My bathroom issue went away, I have had no indegestion since then nor tailbone pain. Troy is most happy about the temp thing---my temp is back to normal (not fever just the way I feel). I had the hotel room set at 62 degrees and the car at 60 degrees...I was cold when I got into the car and the hotel--so the settings are back to normal and troy can now walk around in his boxers again (he was wearing a fleece in the house! LOL).
Overal it was a really good appointment. They did offer to do some "help start labor" points since I am full term but I declined. I'm not ready to be done being pregnant. Maybe at 40 weeks I will let them.

Sounds excellent!! I'm really glad that it worked so well!! I've always wanted to get an acupuncture treatment but was always a bit skeptical! Based on your experience I feel like I should go and have one now! LOL!

I am so scared of acupuncture. This is going to make me sound so stupid but you know the family guy where Brain gets it and there is like a box of needles and then a box of poison needles... I dunno why but it scared me LOL! I sure hope you know what I'm talking about or I'm really going to sound like a dumb dumb lol! Butt I'm glad it worked out good for you. I hope they can fix your spleen problem.

I am SOO jealous. I really want to do it and I can't imagine how AWESOME it must be to have a 90 minute consult and then they do everything and you get to relax for 45 minutes. And then have it covered by insurance?! I WANT that insurance!

i'm so glad you felt better after! i went a while ago, and after the first appt i felt SO ILL. like i almost was sick to my stomach. it got better with each subsequent treatment though. i agree the needles never really hurt, except they went in a SUPER tight muscle once and it was excruciating. and one time she removed a needle and it hurt like he!! and she was like ohhh that one's going to be a bruise! it went away but it felt like a goose egg for a few days. none of these effects were bad enough for me to not go back cause the benefits are so huge, my neck pain was eased a lot by it. yay for acupuncture!

The insurance is great...but for what we pay for it, it better be! LOL I have my chiropractor appointment with them tomorrow. I'm chaning chiropractors because my last one was billing my insurance WAY to much and then not charging me anything. Also this some place (its a family run thing dad is acupuncturist, mom herbalist, son chiropractor, son's wife-massage therapist!) does massage so I think I may try to squeeze one in also!
