I picked up my wedding dress earlier this week. It fits perfect, it looks perfect... only I have one problem: I have no idea how I'm going to get it to the city we are having the wedding in. It is three hours away. DF and I are driving together in his truck with our 50 pound dog, luggage, and the dress.

His truck has a full-size cab. All I can think of is put the dog in the bed of the truck with the luggage and put the dress in the back seat. BUT it has a semi-chapel train. How am I going to do this without getting it wrinkled??! It needs to be all spread out, right? There isn't enough room! Not to mention DF isn't supposed to see it! Okay... sorry... *breath* going into bridezilla mode here.

The only other idea is to somehow put it in the bed of the truck. It could be all nice and spread out back there, but I just have this picture in my head of my dress flying out of the bed of the truck and being run over by cars behind us!!! And for some reason I have the image in my head of it stinking after riding back there. What if it melts! This is TEXAS heat we are talking about here people! What if it rains!

Help!

Are you going to be getting to your location a day or more before the wedding? I would just have it re-steamed when you get there and hang it up. I mean, lay it down as flat as possible but just have it re-steamed when you get there. Please please don't put your dog in the bed of the truck! You would feel much worse in the long run if something happened to him versus your dress being wrinkled/smelly/even GONE. Do you have any other family driving down from where you are that could take the luggage, dog or dress?

I would be pretty concerned about the dog in the bed of the truck too, as is DF. We only put him back there when we absolutely must, and he's never been back there for more than a trip across town (like when he is wet and muddy from the dog park)... never for three hours! But we do put his leash/harness on him when he is back there so he can move around a bit and get to the sides to look out, but never enough to allow him to even get his paws up on the side of the truck. That and it will be hot... I guess we would just have to go as early as possible to avoid the heat. And the luggage would definitely be tied down if we go that route. We would probably manage to get him a cushy blanket back there too.

My mom lives an hour away in the other direction, I might be able to coordinate something with her. But she has a ton of stuff to take up there. She will have all the flowers, favors, centerpieces, etc. Maybe we could trade!

I don't know. How easily does it get wrinkled, does anyone know?

I had a cathedral train and the dress had to be transported in the plastic overwrap 2 hours in the car, and was stored hanging in the plastic overnight also. The way that they hung the dress up, the train was looped up around its own hanger I believe, and hung pretty smoothly, so as long as you let it hang or lay it totally flat and don't really smoosh it (like setting heavy luggage on it) it should be ok. Maybe have a portable steamer with you in the dressing room just in case you see a major crease or wrinkle that's obvious.

Oooooo, that's a good idea Kyle! Maybe I could put the train on another hanger and hang them on opposite sides of the truck. hmmmm...

I found a place that I could trust to steam it, but I don't know. It feels like another thing up in the air that could go wrong. What if they stain it with something, kwim?

I'm no help because I picked mine up from the shop the day of (I have a great relationship w/ them and they agreed to keep it and steam it the day before) and we laid it in the back of my mom's car and went straight to the reception venue where I got dressed. But the girls who do the steaming just have a little handheld type one and are like cheap waged highschool girls. It's not a big deal... so I wouldn't worry about someone screwing it up. Like Kyle said, bringing a portable one yourself would work too.

I have no idea if you wanted to spend the money but you can get a cheap handheld steamer for like $20 even at walmart so you have a hands down sure way to get out wrinkles. It takes a little bit of time but it works well and it wont get hot enough to hurt the dress in any way

We had one when I was in sorority and we used it ALL THE TIME

Thanks for all the helpful advice! I think I'm definitely giving up on getting it down there with no wrinkles. I found a cleaners that specifically does gowns. I don't really like the idea of handing it off, but I think I have to. I think I would trust them more than myself trying to get them out... I don't know what I'm doing!

Angela - I know, it's a scary thought! I can't believe it is right around the corner. I'm excited but nervous. Not nervous about getting married, just about the big event. It is hard to believe that I am really going to pull all of this together. Or at least I hope I'm going to pull it all together!

San Antonio. It will be a small ceremony at a bed and breakfast, then we are doing a riverwalk reception.

I figured it would be a lot more fun for guests because there is just so much to do and see in San Antonio, and so many great places to take pictures. Hopefully my photographer can take advantage of that. I will post lots of pics when I get them!
