Mari, I'm amazed at how much she has learnt this week. In the space of 2 days, she learnt these things:
Rolling over: DropShots.com
Clappa handies: DropShots.com
Where's the baby?: DropShots.com
And... she finally started using a dummy instead of mummy's boobies!!!!!!!!!!!!
I now no longer BF her to sleep through the day, she takes her dumdum and goes off to sleepies by herself I'm such a proud mummy, she has just come on in leaps & bounds this week. She also can sit up unaided for about 30seconds, she can sit for ages as long as every so often I catch her from falling over,
We started sleep training on Monday night as she has had a horrific time with nighttime sleeping, she had gone through a phase of thinking 2am was time to get up & play. So we did a mixture of controlled crying and the baby whisperer's pick up/put down method. We let her cry 5mins, go in and reassure her (if she is VERY upset, I pick her up until she calms, then lay her down again), come out, leave her 5mins, and so on until she falls asleep. There's daily updates on how she did on my blog: Snowbaby’s World
She's much happier and more content through the day since her nighttime sleep has improved. She is now on 3 solid meals per day plus 4 BFs (3 alongside the solids). She went through a phase of about a week where she finally accepted taking a bottle of milk (half BM/half formula) but she has since refused again. But with the solids she has naturally spaced her feeds to 4hourly... thank goodness as I was exhausted with her 1-2hrly feeding.

I find that the learning curve around 5 1/2 months is so steep!!! They just pick up things in an instant. About a week or two ago I just happened to put Amara in a standing position in her crib with her holding the bar and she stood there for about 30 seconds, then she let go and balanced for about 5 seconds. I was like Whoa!!! And it seems like she learnt to do a whole set of things at the same time!
Congrats on the sleep training!

She is such a perfect pretty little girlie! I love her dress and all those close ups.
Wowsa on the paci!!! How did you get her to start taking it? That gives me hope that maybe Matthew will take one to go to sleep someday! He is still nursing to sleep which is okay with me but it would be nice if he'd take a pacifier. I've been slack on offering him one though.

She kinda just did it herself really. I have been offering it to her when she has been teething badly, I wouldn't put it in her mouth tho, I would just put the handle in her mouth and guide her hand holding it, to her mouth. From this she learnt to chew on it for her sore gums. After about 2 months she began to sook whilst holding it, and made it obvious she wanted it but her hands would pull it out and she'd be puzzled "mummy, I want that, stop pulling it out". SHe didn't realise it was her hands
Last Wed in the car she was really tired and due a feed and I knew she wanted to snooze til we got home, so I put it in her mouth and held her hands and she seemed to understand from there to keep her hands away. Then it kinda happened overnight, by Thursday she was a pro with it. I've not BF her to sleep for a daytime nap since. And for nighttime, if she falls asleep during her BF, so be it, but if she wakes up during transfer from me to cot, she takes the dumdum and closes her eyes.
She's been waking up early each morning as well, I usually go in, give her the dumdum, put her music on and go back to bed. She either plays for an hour or snoozes for another hour or so. You can read these updates on my blog
Last night she woke at midnight, had a feed. Then she woke at 3:20am she got the dumdum, and played for an hour, had a small BF, then dumdum again and slept from 4:30-8am when I woke her! So it definately has helped us enormously. She is alos not fussy what type she gets, I have all of these and she takes any:
Cherry teat
Orthadontic teat:
And the squished up cherry type (not sure what it's called!! But Avent and MAM are our most common brands of these)
Have you tried different types at all?
