I have a question for you... Why is it that crunchy moms prefer to not use Tylenol for teething pain? Specifically? Just wondering.

I know my SIL used it for her little girl and she said it stopped working after she used it for awhile. Has that ever happened to anyone either?

I think Matthew may be having teething pain but I dunno. I gave him a couple Hylands homeopathic tablets to see if that helps with the fussyness.

Simply because it's a true medicine made of chemicals. Hylands tablets and gel are more natural. Just my two cents....

I'm not really crunchy but I don't do any medications like that. No tylenol or anything for immunizations or teething. I think there are plenty of better options I'd rather go to before using anything like that. It's the same for both me and James as well. The more you use them the more you need MORE of them to have an affect I have heard. The only way I'd use a medication like that is if my boys had a fever which didn't come down with other remedies. That's just me personally.

Ditto to the above. I'm not a fan of giving myself or Oliver any meds unless it's a last resort type thing.

What else do you use for teething and fevers?

I know cold washrag, cold teethers...

Does Hylands make a gel or do you mean Orajel? I'm not sure how I feel about that...I've heard it only works a short time and it can making nursing difficult b/c baby cant latch on if their mouth gets numb.

I used bonjela teething gel for Kirsty and she never had any nursing issue. I think if it is used sensibly it would be fine.

We do tylenol from time to time, but NEVER orajel. If you haven't ever used it, I suggest putting some in your own mouth. It burned my gums and made me so numb that it was actually bothersome. I would never put it on Reid. We have the hylands tablets but haven't ever had to use them (he only has 3 teeth and has only been in pain for one of them, which is when I did use some tylenol because it was 11pm and I was desperate to give him some relief)

Ive used tylenol on the kids, but at half doses. If I could avoid it, I would just use the teething tablets. Never have I used orajel, I had it once and my entire mouth was numb for a few hours - no way am I going to freak out my kids like that!! What an ordeal that would be!!!

orajel---I used it and it sucks LOL
Tylenol-ditto to what everyone else said
I personally don't treat fever until it hits pretty high...I'm in the "fevers have a purpose so don't take your bodys natural cure away".
I haven't done any research for teething since we are not there yet--but I hear those teething tablets and amber necklaces work wonders....also the cold chew objects.

We used Tylenol once when he was teething because we had tried alot of things and it was like 1am. But the Oragel worked great for us. Henry didn't seem to mind it at all and it really helped him sleep.

'crunchy' meaning organic aka green - all natural, no chemicals

A frozen food/ice cube does wonders in a mesh feeder!!! Or else I would put some wet baby facecloths in the freezer. That works great too.

When they are older a cold sippy/bottle of milk/formula can help too.

I think that's all I've really used.

We rarely use Tylenol here.. But we love MOTRIN.. lol Motrin works wonders for fevers and teething.. I don't think I'm a "crunch" momma, but I don't like antibiotics, I do however like to give a good pain reliever every now and then..

If you want to try Motrin.. Contact your Pediatrician and find out the recommended dose or your local Pharmacist..

You're not alone. I wasn't sure what it meant either.

Thanks for the explanation Beth!
