Oh NO I'm DOOOOOOOMED!!!!
I know this is a "hot topic" but I got myself the H1N1 vaccine today. Who else got it or plans on getting it? We are all dooooomed!! I would not have got it if I didn't have Jack. And personally, if I was pregnant I would for sure get it (whether we get it or not, we are all doing what we feel is best). They even make a preservative free version as a shot. But I got the live one up my nose! I'm INFECTED!! OOGA BOOGA!!
You want to know what my secret worry with all this is? Those that get the H1N1 vaccine will turn into zombies. You don't even want to know what Dustin said he would do to me if I turned into a zombie. I think you should go ask your SO what they would do if you turned into a zombie and then report back here to tell us what he said

I'm not either, I hospitals/doctors/needles/etc etc, if I can avoid it at all costs I will. I'm not giving it to Conner either, just can't bring myself to do it. But if you turn into a zombie, can I light you on fire? I always wanted to do that to a zombie..

LMAO!
I find it interesting how the anti-vaccine people seem to polarize to online message boards. I mean, I get it. Jack has yet to get any of his regular vaccinations, and when he does he is getting them spaced out. I just know that after my birth hospital experiences I will do a lot to avoid having him be admitted from catching swine flu at such a young age, or me ending up back there from getting really sick. I am still breastfeeding so I feel pretty good about that. I think every preggo woman in my city was getting it this morning.
I guess I'll be the guinea pig! Or should I say, ZOMBIE pig! Muhahahaha!

Ah, yes, zombies like in I Am Legend
I don't think I am going to get it. I keep saying that we will get the seasonal flu shot, but I haven't done it yet. Don't know when my jerk boss will let me take off an hour or two early to pick up Reid and take him.....*sigh*
I've never had any type of flu shot before, but Reid was sooo sick all last winter, I want to get it with him.

Yes BE SURE to ask the zombie question. I am wondering if Dustin's answer reflects that of men in general.
Breanna, I never got the flu shot until I got a really horrible case of the flu one year in Feb. I think it is often worse in the spring. The following fall I got a flu shot, and then after that I never did again. This year for H1N1 I would feel horrible if I didn't get it, and then Jack got the flu. At least now that my body is making antibodies to the flu vaccine I can transfer a bit of that immunity to him via breastfeeding without him actually getting sick. And since I am on a germy campus several times a week I also thought it would be best to get it. All we can do is what we think is best, no matter what it is, and have some peace of mind. I talked to some microbiologists and doctor friends along with doing some of my own research.

I thought parents and people who have under 6 month olds at home couldn't get the LIVE vaccine because of risk of infecting them? I wonder if thats one of those things that each dr says something different LOL.
We aren't getting ours....I've always wanted to be a zoombie and eat BRAINS!!!!!!! hehehe

It's not available here yet to give and I'm not sure if I'd get it or not.
If by getting it my body will create the antibody which I can pass on through my milk to Amara so she does not get it, then I will get it. OK...hope that's not confusing.

Hi, sorry to bud into your thread but it caught my attention. I am planning to get the vaccine for my entire family (6) and I noticed you talked to your dr friends and I was curious if any of the drs mentioned 'shedding' to you from flumist? I have done tons of research and all it has done is frustrate me, we are thinking of going to a local clinic they are holding saturday for flumist inwhich only my 9 yr old twins fit into the vaccination group but i am concerned that they could spread the live virus to my little one. It says that children can 'shed' for up to 21 days and adults even longer. When I called the clinic they also told me that since I am breastfeeding I shouldn't have the flumist since it is a live virus UGH! Did your dr. friends express an opinion on this? I am pulling my hair out trying to decide to do this now or wait for the shot version which could be another month

I am not sure about the shedding since I only have the one child, but I will ask!
Around here with everyone I have spoken with they all have said flumist is okay to take while breastfeeding. The CDC and Kelly mom also say both the live mist and the shot are okay to take while breastfeeding. I did find something that said the risk of exposing the flu to your child after being exposed to the mist is 1 or 2%, I will try and dig that up later since I have to leave for class soon.
So considering the mist is a weakened form of the virus and my Dr and the CDC says the risk of transmitting this weakened form is very low, I feel confident about it. Anyways, they are only giving the shot to children under a certain age and preggos in my town FOR THE MOMENT. It seems like they change their minds all the dang time! I think that by practicing good hand washing techniques and sneezing into your elbow and all that, that getting the weakened live virus should pose no risk to your unvaccinated child. The way I look at it, the baby getting exposed to a weakened form used for a vaccine is much better then being exposed to the full shebang, which with other kids in the household is likely. Ok I want to say more but gotta go baby is cryi g

The girls and I are not getting the H1N1 flu vaccine but Lee has to because he's military. Lee says he would shoot me in the head if I turned into a zombie. And I quote, "I wouldn't need to do anything extravagant when I have a gun right upstairs." Touche.

hubby said "it depends are you curable, or are you a zombie and thats it? Do I have to remove your head and destroy the brain? because if it comes down to it I will - but if I can cure you, Ill try that first...." So sweet And no, none of us here will get the shot - the kids got their regular flu shot, and thats it.

Fine. The less zombies there are, the more brains for me to eat.
Vienna, my DH's answer also involved zombie sex. And then shooting me in the head.

Ed and I had this discussion last week. He said "Isn't this how most zombie movies start?"

I'll be getting it as soon as it becomes available here. Working in the ICU, I feel it would be irresponsible not to get it. The whole zombie thing would be a plus. Maybe work would tell me to stay home.
