Okay, I have this friend on facebook who literally just found out she was pregnant. She's a smoker, and her status yesterday was "Its going to be so hard quitting smoking, but its definitely worth it for this baby I will start tomorrow" Okay, well whatever thats fine, if it were me I would stop the second I found out but whatever, thats not the worst!! Then her friend (who I know from highschool and was also on my friends list) commented on that status... "Its okay we'll get through this together ive been needing to quit for the past 8 months and I definitely need to just do it"....UMM guess what?!? This girl is 8 months pregnant!!!!!!! How can you go for 8 months knowing that you could be hurting your baby like that? Im not a smoker and never have been so maybe I dont understand, but my god just stop!! Is it just me am I overreacting, or is this insane? I took her off my friends list. I wasnt even close with her, just knew her from high school so its not like im cutting off a friendship or anything. I cant believe that!

That's horrible. I was a smoker and quit 3 years ago, cold turkey.I always said if I was still smoking and got pregnant, i would quit immediately. No waiting on that! My SIL smoked for a month or two after she found out she was pregnant. I cant imagine 8 months though, that poor baby!!!! I was around smoking last night and I kept covering my nose and mouth with my jacket so I couldnt inhale it.

That is really horrible. And watch, her baby will come 100% healthy and she will never even realize the risk she was taking & what she was exposing her baby to.

it is a shame when people act that way towards their unborn babies.
if i was a smoker (which i'm not) i would def stop the second i got a bfp.
you can't change people (learned this for sure with sil and her pregnancy), she did all of the above while pg too...i just hope for the best despite her errors in judgement.

I use to be a smoker(Haven't had a cig in years though!) and when I got pregnant for the first time I was smoking but as soon as I thought I could be pregnant, I stopped and was able to not smoke the whole time(Ended in a loss at about 13weeks). Smoking is really hard to give up, but for something like that I found it easy to stop.

It horrible. My mom smoked with my brother and me (not sure if thats all she did though..) and I know my Aunt did with my cousin. Now granted my brother and I are fine and don't have any issues my almost 8yr old cousin i believe does have asthma.
I dont understand it, my friend also smoked with her daughter(more then just cigs) that was born 3mo before Seamus, I quit as soon as I found out I was pregnant with him.

Wow that's really horrible!

My boss smoked all through her pregnancy. It was horrible. She's constantly go for smoke breaks. She had a little boys and he had respiratory problems due to smoke being in the house etc etc... yet she didn't do anything about it.

Stuff like that really makes me mad! Why in the world would anyone knowingly cause potential harm to their baby? I've never smoked anything in my life but if I did I know I would quit as soon as I thought a baby might even be a possibility. As it is, if I'm passing someone who is smoking I hold my breath til I'm passed them.

You would be horrified at some of the things people do when they're pregnant. I see women every day who still smoke PACKS of cigs A DAY when they're pregnant, and then when baby is born, and in the car with them, etc etc. It's crazy. We also have a client who reported drinking A CASE of Mountain Dew PER DAY while she was pregnant. AN ENTIRE CASE.

And that's just during their pregnancy, it's ridiculous what people do AFTER the baby is born. It makes me truly sad.

I hate when people smoke while pregnant! or for that matter, smoke around their babies/kids and don't even care! The kids can't tell they "hey you know, don't smoke around me" so they are defenseless! If I were a smoker, I would definitely quit the first moment I thought I could be pregnant. thankfully I don't have to worry about that.

Its and ugly addiction. Did you know MANY doctors tell women who smoke not to quit but to cut back...the theory is that going threw withdrawls is worse for baby....I have had many friends who smoke (Highschool friends) that were told this. They all smoke outside of the house at least when the kids were born. I don't smoke so I can't comment on how hard it is...but I couldn't cut out caffeine while I was preggers even though I said I would, but I did cut down (its got the same effects a smoking WHILE pregnant!) So I guess I can't really throw stones on that one LOL

That stuff drives me mad! My mom smoked with all 4 of us and all of us were BARELY 6lbs at birth We're all healthy and fine now but my middle sister has diabetes and has since she was 5 and it doesn't run on either side of our family so who knows if that had anything to do with it

Such a shame!! It pains me when people do things like these. I understand that it's an addiction but I believe that it's so selfish to continue when you could harm your child.
