usually gushes mean you are doing too much and can happen during/after breast feeding. Put feet up, relax and cuddle baby

In the first week, it's quite normal. Especially when going from a lying to a sitting/standing position. I'm not breastfeeding and I had huge gushes for awhile... I always wore two of those huge hospital pads. I could barely walk bc it felt like I was wearing a diaper!

During & after BFing deffo makes the flow heavier as it stimulates the uterus to contract. And I can vouch for it coming out worse when moving from standing to sitting and vice versa it's horrid!

I had a lot of gushes in the first week or two. The midwife/nurses had said that it was normal as long as I wasn't passing large clots (golf ball size) with them.

Gushes are normal, big clots are not. Like everyone else said, especially when going from sitting or laying to standing. There were times in the hospital after I had Liam where I would stand up and not even make it to the bathroom in time (literally 3 steps from my bed) and the blood would be dripping down my leg even with a huge pad on. If she got an injection shortly after giving birth it was probably something to help stimulate her uterus to contract so she didn't hemorrhage.

I had gushes mostly during/after BFing. First time it happened it freaked me out! Ditto that they happen to sometimes when you get up from laying/sitting down.
Next time I am getting some depends for PP bleeding. I think that would be easier than those huge pads which I'd still get leakage from sometimes.

ooo the depends are a good idea - you dont leave the house the first week anyways, no one would notice!!
