Well those of you on my facebook may have seen this (or maybe not I feel a little unloved , Beth was the only one who commented, thanks Beth), but Matthew spit up blood last night. It was brown blood on his sheets. I called his pedi and she said since I recently took him off his Prevacid, he probably retched hard enough that he got a small tear in his stomach or esophagus. She said it should be okay so long as it subsides over the next day and doesn't ever turn bright red. And that obviously his reflux is still bad enough that he needs to go back on the Prevacid. I feel so bad, I took him off it and he seemed to be okay, he was spitting up more but it didn't seem to be bothering him. Bless his little heart, he was babbling at his daddy while I was on the phone with the Dr.
We are also waiting on some lab results from testing his poop. He has always had problems with mucus in his poop off and on and I've never been able to figure out what in my diet causes it. It's gotten bad again recently like poop that is mostly just mucus. They are doing a bacterial culture, checking for parasites and rotavirus. But she said it's probably my diet since this has been a problem in the past. Right now I am cutting out dairy again (I did this for two weeks when he was little with no noticeable improvement) and also wheat/gluten as much as I can. I'm so scared something is really wrong like Celiac's or something. Or that what if I can't figure out what it is and he has to go on formula. It would break my heart to have to stop BFing. I just don't want to hurt his tummy. I don't know how long I can keep up no dairy or wheat, I'm hoping to make it a week and see if it helps and then try to reintroduce one or the other so I can see which it is, or if it's not either of them.
I'm lucky he's been mostly okay through all of this. He was having really bad gas at first but that seems to have mostly gone away. He's not too fussy except for when he gets tired and when his gums are bothering him. I also stopped giving him any solids just in case that was a problem and he's back on BM only.
I cut nuts and chocolate back out of my diet too.

As for the blood on the bedsheets that would have been enough to scare anyone and hopfully once hes back on his reflux medication he will be ok x

Ohhh nooo I hope that you or the docs can find a solution soon and that he stops spitting up blood. That must be scary though. At least he's still a happy camper.
I cant get on FB at work, my only source is my phone which I use for fb to either update my status or respond to a my message or my wall posts that my phone notifies me of.

Oh no that would freak me out too! I wonder if it isn't the combination of solid foods plus the lack of prevacid? It is good he sounds just fine despite the throwing up, but I know the mommy guilt is probably eating at you (I get mommy guilt for everything). He has really good growth, right? I bet he is fine even with the mucous poop, but it is good you are getting it tested. You are doing a great job Shannon! KUP

His growth is just great, nothing slowing that down!
Forgot to say he has microscopic blood in his poop too. I think the bloody spit up is due to stopping the Prevacid. Mucus poop has got to be either food allergy or illness, since that actually started before I stopped the Prevacid. I really wish it could be illness cause at least that could eventually be over and done with. Not sure when I will get lab results.
Yeah on the FB thing I just feel kinda paranoid sometimes like ppl have me on ignore or don't want to read my updates. I know maybe that's silly b/c I don't always comment on everything other ppl post either (though I try to as much as I can).

Awww Shan, I bet a lot of folk are missing status updates since FB changed the homepage layout - I know I have been missing them, I didn't realise you could click "Live Feed" to get the updates in chronological order. That, as well as I know status updates haven't been refreshing for some of us
However, I'm glad you posted here about Matthew, you must have gotten such a scare I'm glad the Ped could help with testing and advice. I hope it's a one-off and doesn't happen again.

I hope they figure out the mucous thing and it is easily fixed. Poor little guy.
I just checked facebook after not going on it for awhile after reading this post. I bet Fi is right about the layout changing b/c that had me confused. You know no one in my family commented on my dancing preggo video? Now that is weird.

Aww, poor little guy. I know you must be worried sick. I hope you get some solutions soon. I'm glad to hear he is growing like a weed. And like Michelle said, you are doing a great job, so don't let the mommy guilt eat you up!
And I'm not on FB period, so I'm clueless as to what goes on over there...

Shannon - I'm sorry FB people are not taking notice....I share a FB page with my hubby (actually I just use his to talk to a few people - I refuse to create my own page....just a thing with me I guess. I hope Matthew gets better - please keep us posted as to how he's doing and what the Dr. finds out is wrong with him...I can't imagine what you are going thru - I never had any of those issues with my kiddos...so HUGS girl.

I don't think you're on my FB, I'll have to find you and add you.
Has your doctor ever mentioned anything about antibiotics being the reason for the mucousy BM's? Sometimes antibiotics can kill the good bacteria in your digestive tract, and cause the mucus in a bowel movement. Other than that I don't know what it could be, but I think removing dairy and gluten products might help if it's a digestive problem. I hope Matthew feels better soon. It must be horrible to not know what's going on.
