We have spent the last two days at my parents and my Mum and Auntie took us down to the hospital for the CVS Procedure yesterday.
Didn't go as straight forward as it should have as baby refused to co-operate and kept hiding from the ultra-sound. I ended up having a vaginal ultra-sound as well so the doctors could get a good look at the intestines on the outside of the body. By the time we were ready for the CVS Procedure, my uterus had moved down too low and they had to get me back up to go to the bathroom, walk around etc to try and make it move back up.
It didn't move back up so they went ahead anyway, but apparently that angle of the needle going in made it much more uncomfortable to me than what it should have. With my major needle phobia, it wasn't a fun experience.
So we'll be getting the first lot of results back on Monday, but we've been told not to get our hopes up. The measurements of the fluid/skin at the back of the neck now indicate we have a 70% chance of having a serious chromosome abnormality. I asked the doctor if there was no chromosome abnormality, what were the chances on operating on the baby once it was born to put the intestines back inside the body, but she doesn't feel that is an option for us due to how serious the issue was. She doesn't believe the baby will survive the pregnancy.
As devastating as this news is, it's also a huge relief to hear such terrible news. We will be waiting until Monday to get the results of the CVS, but the decision to terminate the pregnancy feels much easier now.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to be around here for a while. We will be TTC again in the future, but both feel the need to take a break to work through this experience.
Thank you so much for all your concern and words of support over the last few weeks. And also thanks to those women who have PM'ed me with their stories. Just knowing there are women out there who have made the same decision as me really, really helps.
