to me to not having my period for like many months. I have let my periods go very long without coming since every time I've been off the pill I'm been trying to get preggo - and you need periods to get preggo. Now I'm off the pill and not trying to get preggo and I'm not having periods which is fine with me....as long as there are no health risks. I was at my annual appt the other day and my doc told me to call her if I didn't have it in the next three months...I've already gone three months without it since I stopped BF'ing Nora....so all together I haven't had my period since Sept of last year. She really didn't explain to me what the health risks were (why I needed to call her if it was going on six months)? Anyone know?

Oh and for the record....the doc didn't think I needed to rule out pregnancy as a reason why I have no period cause we followed all the rules with the V (at least thru his first check which was fine)...and DH got his second spermie check and he is officially "shooting blanks" as he put it

I had the mirena IUD for about 3 years, all of which I never had a period. As long as your walls arnt over burdened with blood that you would shed from a period, youll be fine.

well that's good....I guess I'm worried about my PCOS issue...could I end up with cysts that would grow and get so big I would have to have surgery? Googling this problem is no help at all?

there could be cysts and such. I'm not supposed to go beyond 90 days without one, unless pregnant or breastfeeding, due to my history of bad cysts and endo.

You have PCOS, right? It is no good to go for more then 5 months without a period unless you are pregnant, BF, or on hormonal birth control. I would take a test to be on the safe side too.

The reason why you shouldn't go longer then that is that it puts you at increased risk for uterine cancer b/c lining isn't getting shed. And with PCOS, you may just be developing many "cysts" which could lead to enlarged ovaries and some problems from the excess testosterone they produce. I think there are other reasons too but my mind is mush from lack of sex

Yes I have PCOS so I guess that is the main reason she doesn't want me to go that long....man I just signed up for the AFLAC cancer policy but I certainly don't want to use it - so I am definintely going to call if I don't have my period for another three months. I refuse to take a tes...there is no way on God's green earth I could be preggo....trust me....so thanks ladies for the advice and thoughts!

Now Michelle.... - you gotta get you some and soon!!!!

I *think* if you're not getting periods than that is usually caused by a hormonal imbalance or vitamin deficiency. Either of those things could lead to early osteoporosis and arthritis and other problems. I would definitely get a reason why you're not having AF!

Goodness I don't know. But it couldn't be that much different than being on birth control, some of which stop your period, right? If doc seemed concerned I think it is at least worth a call to her to ask her about it.

With the PCOS I've always been told they dont want me to go more than 3 months without a period.. I havent had one since my mc in June.. mostly because that was so traumatic I'm actually scared to get it.. I notice that if I go longer than 2-3 months I get horrible cramps randomly.. I'm hoping I'm not setting myself up for more serious issues.. like endo or uterine cancer.. my dr has told me both are associated with PCOSer's not getting AF often enough..

Good luck!

Putting PCOS aside... there is no medical benefit from having AF... so I was told a couple weeks by my doc, I was looking to try some BC to lighten my AFs and she offered a few suggestions which commonly eliminate AFs completely. I asked if that was medically safe? And she said there are no medical benefits from having AF.... Men don't have them!

As I said though, that's putting PCOS and any other medical situations aside.

I wish this was the case for me Fi!!!! I know there are a bunch of birth control methods out there that make you have either less periods or no periods....what a beautiful world!
This is probably because whatever kind of birth control it is, is preventing the whole entire process including eggs being grown in their, lining thickening the whole nine yards...my body may be doing some of the process naturally and not others - hence the PCOS....so in that situation there probably are not risks but in mine (not being on any kind of hormone therapy) sounds like there are.
