I'm researching CDing because I know nothing about it other than I want to do it. So, I'm sure this is the first of many questions. I really have three questions, bolded for convenience:

1. Right now I'm researching diaper types, not brands (prefolds vs AIO or pocket diapers... fitted... and so it goes on). What have you BTDT moms found to be the best CD type for you and why? I'm sure it varies by occasion (at home, on the go, nighttime, etc), so please share what you use on each occasion!

2. What are the CDing accessory must haves and nice to haves? I'm seeing things like pails, diaper shower things that attach to the toilet, etc, and I'm sure that is only the beginning.

3. I'm finally learning the difference between prefolds and pocket diapers. Pocket diapers from what I read are supposed to be more convenient, but I don't understand why. It seems to me that, although pocket diapers would be easier to put on, they would be more messy when taking off compared to prefolds?? Maybe I just don't understand how they work, but digging an insert out of a pocket in a dirty diaper doesn't seem too convenient as opposed to just getting a new prefold. Am I understanding this correctly?

4. Does anyone use snappies (I think I'm using the right word here... the T shaped stretchy hook things)? How sharp are they? Can older babies take them off? It seems like they could be a safety hazzard if baby learned to take it off and they are sharp, but I'm sure I'm missing a piece of the puzzle here because I see no warnings for them.

ETA:
5. What is your most reliable nighttime diaper type? From what I read, double stuffed pockets are the best at night, but can you use prefolds consistently without leaking?

Thanks in advance!

1. . What have you BTDT moms found to be the best CD type for you and why? I've used pockets, prefolds, fitteds, AIO's and AI2's and my favorites right now are pockets, when she was a little smaller I loved my fitteds. I like my pockets best because you can add more inserts to make them thicker or thinner, and she seems to be the most mobile in pockets

2. What are the CDing accessory must haves and nice to haves? Wool and Fleece! They are great covers especially for night they wick the moisture away from baby and wool can hold I think its 30% of its weight in liquid, and mine have never really gotten smelly, they only need to be "washed" every 3-4weeks depending on use. And of course something to put dirty diapers in, I just have a 13gallon trashcan with a lid from Walmart that we got for $7 and it works great.

3. IIt seems to me that, although pocket diapers would be easier to put on, they would be more messy when taking off compared to prefolds?? I haven't found them to be any more messy and Kieran still has the EBF poos that are runny and wattery. Maybe because prefolds are against me and a pain in the butt to get on her right so I just trifold them and put a cover on and then the cover can get messy and pooy, its easier to take an insert out of a pocket from the back or front of the diaper and you really dont touch the poo, just wash hands after and its good

4. Does anyone use snappies (I think I'm using the right word here... the T shaped stretchy hook things)? How sharp are they? Can older babies take them off? I do use my snappi's when I do my fitteds, and they can hurt, not just baby but you, I've had one snap back at me and catch and cut my finger, but they are supposed to be used only with a cover so that baby can't get to them and get hurt by them, so diaper>snappi>cover

ETA: About night time, I usually use a pocket like my lonley bg 3.0 with just the 1 larger microfiber insert it comes with, Kieran's not a huge wetter and she wakes after about 5hours sometimes more so she gets changed pretty quickly, but ya pockets with double inserts for heavey wetters or those that will sleep for ever

Great Questions, and I can't wait to hear all the responses!! I was so overwhelmed when I started researching all the CD stuff!!!!! You can also make your own when you figure out what you want!!! I am making a combo diaper....LOL It's a fitted, pocket diaper with PUL on the outside so you don't need to use a cover!!!

I'm sure it varies by occasion (at home, on the go, nighttime, etc), so please share what you use on each occasion!

I guess it would be classified as a AI2. I like using G diapers with cloth inserts. The inserts you change and you keep the gpant and liner until it gets messy or whatever. I usually rotate between two. I love it. I love just switching out the inserts.

2. What are the CDing accessory must haves and nice to haves? I'm seeing things like pails, diaper shower things that attach to the toilet, etc, and I'm sure that is only the beginning.

I just use facecloths and home made baby wipes with baby wash and water solution. And a regular diaper pail.

The pocket opening is usually on the front or back so normally it doesn't get messy, but it can!

I've never used them. I prefer snaps only. I hate velcro and snappis haha

I use a BG 3.0 one size pocket diaper with both inserts. Never had any leaks. I also use an Apple Cheeks with an Apple Cheek insert and either the BG infant insert or the Gro baby booster. All have worked but BG pocket diaper is my favorite.

1. I like pockets, specifically Bum Genious 3.0s
2. must haves for me are wet bags, I have two, so I can use one while the other is in the wash. oh and I have a small one for travel.
3. Pocket diapers are much easier to put on to me. With a prefold you have to fold it, snappi it and then put on a cover. It really doesn't take too much effort to take the insert out of a pocket diaper and to be honest with Matthew's once a day poops now I am bound to get poopy on my hand one way or another. I will say though I used prefolds when he was younger and I did like them. I just like pockets a lot better plus they are easier to put on cause he's wiggly.
4. I've used snappis and haven't had a problem with them. I was just careful with them and yeah had to use a cover.
5. Can't help with nighttime we use sposies because it keeps him dryer and he sleeps better. Sleep = happy mommy

If you need to see cloth diapers in person we could meet up sometime OR I also know of a resale shop place in H town that sells cloth! (used and new) and I think they have some kind of info thing where they show people how to use cloth.

I like the prefolds with covers, hubby likes AIO or Pockets (anything w/o a cover LOL)

If you use prefolds a snappi or pins would be important (but I only use them sometimes, I do what Resi showed me and just lay them in the cover)
I have TWO big wetbags (bags with pul inside so they don't leak, one in the wash and one being used) And I have one 2 little wetbags (for traveling and out of the house)
I haven't used a sprayer.

sounds right to me! LOL but pulling out a dirty insert to a pocket isn't that bad.

They are as sharp as a pastic knife...meaning it COULD cut but most likely will not, I haven't come close to cutting..I have poked my fingers a little (never enough to break skin)

I use whatever is clean! LOL Since we EC part time he doesn't pee much at night....so a prefold would work for us.

oh and cloth wipes! Because having disposables ...they always seem to get put in with the diapers on accident and they SUCK to pick off the diapers after coming out of the dryer. And also dryer balls are a nice perk to get the thicker (AIO) diapers dryer fast (actually ALL my clothes take less time now!)
