Random, I know....15 months after the fact, LOL.

I think my OB might have swept my membranes without telling me at my last OB appointment. She checked me and I was still just 1cm dilated. After the appt I was super crampy and bleeding quite a bit (gooey blood...) I went into labor 10 hours later.

I don't know why I didn't think about it before. I never assumed that she did anything on purpose, that maybe it just happened because she checked my progress or it was just a fluke.

Hmm.

I'm pretty sure my doctor did this at one of my appointments as well... I think it's so common for women to want it done that doctors don't even think about it.

My ob did it for me at my last appointment with E. I was going to be induced the next day, so he swept the membranes to see if that would help, and sure enough I went into labor that night! I didn't even know he did it until he told me that I might notice more cramping or bleeding because he swept my membranes.

I've had my membranes swept and I can tell you I definitely KNEW it was being done, it hurt like hell! With Lily I went into labor 26 hours later but had no cramping or bleeding. With Violet I was upset that my membranes were swept because 1) I was already in labor (4 cm) and 2) I did not ask to have them swept. Of course, this was also the same doctor who asked me if I wanted a pitocin pump when I was already 8 cm dilated and had gone from 4 - 8 in less than three hours.

That is pretty random! Although I'm glad you posted it because I wouldn't want a doc doing something to me without asking me first and I never thought they would.

I would think you would have felt it?? Like it would have hurt or something?? Perhaps just being checked started things up?? I'm not sure though! I haven't had my stripped before.

Really pretty random Bre I too would think it would hurt alot and you were know they were doing something more than just checking your cervix cause even that hurts a little bit. I would really personally like to know if something like that was being done and would hope your doctor would have at least told you they were doing it if they did. However, if I were ever at my due date I would let them do just about anything to get the baby out. I had both my babies just before 37 weeks and I was ready for them to be out then !!!
