Will you try for a VBAC or get a repeat a c/s with your next pregnancy?
I'm considering a VBAC and plan to talk to my doc about it in Jan. when I go for my routine visit. I really would love to have a vaginal birth. But there are a couple reasons why a scheduled c/s appeals to me too.

I will try for sure! But yeah their are reasons a scheduled c/s appeals to me too. I know their is a possibility I wont be able to give birth vaginally and I so want to be awake to hear my baby cry for the first time, and since it wont be an emergency I could be awake for it. And also back labor blows and a scheduled c/s I could avoid all that lol!!! And my doctor told me because they cut so low that it make's a vbac a bit harder.... because of the lovely language barrier I have no clue why. So I will just ask my next doctor lol !
What are your reasons Resi?? If you don't mind sharing of coarse.

There is no way I EVER want another c section. I even have a plan for if I develop pre-e again to try and avoid another section. It is not happening! Luckily since I labored to fully dilated and pushed for so long w/Jack, I think (I hope) I will progress even faster the next time. And I will do more if I notice he is posterior during labor instead of just hoping he will turn on his own. Nothing about a repeat appeals to me whatsoever, and I hope I can avoid it. Thinking about surgery again sends me into a tizzy!

I would love to be able to have a natural birth but if I were to become pregnant again I think I would proceed under the advice from my doctor. Fortunately here we are not very C-Section "happy" and natural births are still pretty much the first option. The reason why I can't say is because I seem to have a small pelvic area. Depending on the size of the baby, I would decide how to proceed.

I'm not allowed a VBAC even though I've already had one vaginal, this hospital doesn't allow VBAC If we could some how find awesome insurance or move to Washington I could possible have one at one of their hospitals but not here.
And we wont have insurance through dh's work, its out rageous. Starting jan 1st it goes to a $7800 family deductable that has to be paid before anything, then it was something like $500/mo we'd have to pay. And what I dont understand is why I would have to pay a freggin co-pay plus the full office visit(to reach the deductible), its paying more on it then. Blech

I think there are exercises you can try to do to keep baby from being posterior and you do them when you get close to your due date I think? I bet Angela would know. I don't know if they actually help or if it's more just getting lucky. I was always amazed at women who knew that there baby was posterior before labor started, I could never tell what position he was in or whether I was feeling an arm or a foot or what!
I hope you don't have to have c-section next time! You deserve a "piece of cake" recovery next time after what you went through with Jack.

Shannon, I had a sheet of those exercise from my doula, and a sheet that showed how to tell if a baby is posterior. It said your belly will look flat at the end instead of round. Mine always looked round so I assumed he was facing the right direction during pregnancy, but during labor at one point my belly changed and you could tell he was facing the wrong way b/c my belly concaved. They told me I couldn't move a lot by that point, but I wish I had thought to try and do positions anyways to turn him back. Then later when Dustin was asleep and I was barely conscious of what was going on, the midwife broke my water. When D woke up he was wondering why they did that, b/c once they break you waters the chances of the baby turning again are slim. But I didn't stop them when they did it b/c I guess I trusted my midwife and I was out of it anyways. Now I know!
Who knows if that would have even avoided the section on its own. That is why I have a detailed multi step plan to avoid it next time. I have put a lot of thought into it already! Dustin thinks I may want to just schedule another section, but the negative repercussions for that for me were terrible. I want to stay far away from the whole thing. Ugh.

I feel horrible for not having a choice in the matter like people look down at me for having to do another one like i'm a horrible terrible person
one reason we may not(still unsure) have any more, 1 c-section was enough

There are not a lot of posit ves to having another c/s. But it would help with planning on being away from Oliver but at the same time I would be away longer with a c/s. I guess that doesn't really matter now that I type it out. I would just hate to be in labor again for over 30 hours and push for 3 to have it end with a c/s. I could save a lot of energy if I knew someone how it would turn out.

Shannon, I tried every exercise there was to try to get Amara to turn but nothing! I could tell Amara was posterior from early on but I had a scan at 32 weeks which confirmed that she was. You stomach usually looks different. Mine would look kind of flat instead of rounded especially will the Little Missy decided she would open her legs. Not fun at all. There were also other signs but that was the tell tale sign for me.

I feel like we are all scarred emotionally. Maybe I am just projecting? Eh, we have our babes and that is all that maters, right?
Justin, we all understand you have no choice. If no hospital in the area would do vbacs, and I couldn't get a midwife or safely do a homebirth, I would have to make peace with another section too. You do what you gotta do. Don't listen to those types of people that act like you always have a choice. More times then not those people have not had to experience what it is like to be stuck with few options, and they are just lucky but don't recognize it as that. They see their preparation and luck that led to them being able to do what they want, and then confuse it by thinking it was all due to their own willpower or whatever. Ugh - as you can tell I have had some pretty irritating conversations with moms in my area about this.
Resi - that is how my dh sees it, and he has a point. If my section recovery wasn't so bad I might agree more with that for me. But then, I think laboring for so long before is part of what made it bad. That, and all the drugs. Still, I hated it. How was your recovery? Anyone can answer that one :d

My recovery was hard. The first couple days in the hospital it took me like 5-10 mins to get out of bed because I was sore/in pain. I had to have my mom or Damon help me shower by washing me and dressing me. The first couple days in the hosptial I could not get up and tend to Oliver. I had to have a nurse come in and get him out of his bassinet thing. They changed him too. I think it took a couple weeks at least to start to feel better when laying down and getting up. The good thing about my c/s was that I was awake and got to hold Oliver about 1015 mins after he was born. He never left my sight except to go for a hearing test and my mom went with him for that. I feel very lucky that I was able to hold him so soon and try to BF so soon. I know a lot of other c/s moms didn't get the chance. I've never felt that upset about having to have a c/s. I wish I gave birth vaginaly but it didn't happen. I didn't enjoy my c/s and recovery stinked but it happened and I can't change it. Sometimes I feel like I let myself down or my body let me down.. but I try not to go there.

How did they close your incision??? They used surgical glue on me. My recovery was very easy.... it hurt but I was up and moving the next day. I think its because they cut so low on me is why my recovery was not so bad. I once had surgery on my left side and the HURT like no other for a month, and my bladder surgery was pretty easy like my C/S and they used my old scar for that. So I dunno I am no doctor but maybe its something to do with where they cut or close up the incision with. Do I sound like a dumb butt??? lol!

I think I am going to do a repeat c/s....My hospital does do VBACS but my doc thinks that since Lyla was mal-positioned and failed to progress after 18 hours that most of my babies from now on will also be mal-positioned. I just hope to get to be awake for my next one and not so drugged and out of it.

Mine was done really low too with glue. Maybe it's because you are so much younger than me? Or maybe I'm a wimp. It wasn't that bad but I was super sore and I walked really slow the first few days.

Recovery is why I dont want another c-section and why I'm undecided about another baby(dh wants another). I had Stitches and steri strips, and my incision is alittle higher up but its probably because I'm obese. Our bathroom is upstairs so the day we got home I had to be climbing stairs to go to the bathroom(they gave me an enema before I left), and I ended up not closing up right, it took around 2 months pp to fully close. I think I'd rather take the 24+hrs of induced labor to a c-section recovery again.

My incision is very low and he used stitches. My labor was about 30 hours (went into labor on Tuesday night around 8pm, had him Thursday morning at 1:30am). Maybe that's why our recoveries were bad - all that laboring first.

My recovery sucked and I didn't labor before and had a hard recovery (Seamus wasn't a c-section just Kieran)

I dunno, I guess you never know. It prob. depends on the surgeon and how the surgery goes too, plus you had the incision recovery. Surgery sucks!
