So I went for my HSG today. It was done in the hospital. My usual doctor was off that day, so her associate did the procedure. He was the typical old guy GYN, and I really liked him. I think because he was a man, he didn't judge me for wanting to get pregnant so young. He answered all my questions and had me leave directly to the office to make an appt and and get a rec for DH's SA. Only problem was... he wasn't very gentle. But i'm not sure it was his fault.
The room was a generic radiology room, with a long flat table. There were not stirrups to help me position, and the lighting was terrible. The speculum was either too big.. or something. It HURT sooooo bad. I was told the pain with be from the dye in the tubes... but no. It took almost half an hour to get the catheter in. I apparently have a "difficult cervix". It was high, and he couldn't see or reach it. Then it was closed so tightly that he couldn't get the catheter in. He had to use a dialator and I though i was going to rip in half. I remember screaming, crying and squeezing my husband's hand. The doctor looked so guilty, and I could tell he felt awful. He appologized profusely before he left. I went to clean up, and was bleeding like a stuck pig. The radiology tech told me that she had never seen a HSG that difficult before. She had never seen a doctor have to use the dialator before.
The dye didn't hurt at all. I was just relieved to have the catheter in. The doctor set up the screen so I could see, but the the little witch of a radiologist came in and moved the screen. Then she and the doctor fought for awhile. "Turn the screen so she can see." "Its more important that I can see." "Just tilt it a little!" She continued to bicker with him, until she left the room in a huff.
The results were good. Both tubes are open... and I have no pain now. The poor doctor looked so pale when he left. I don't know what made this have to be so difficult.

Goodness, I'm sorry you had such an awful experience! Your doc sounded really nice though. I can't believe the radiologist went back and forth with him like that... wth?

I'm so sorry it was so painful for you. I'm glad everything is clear, that is great news. Also if there was a small blockage, maybe everything got totally cleared out and ready to go.

That sounds awful and painful. Your poor thing. It sounds like the doc felt really bad for causing you pain. At least you got some good news at the end of it all.

The next step is getting an SA for DH. If everthing looks normal, we will be moving on to clomid cycles to hopefully extend my LP and increase progesterone.

Sorry it was so painful Alice. I've heard after HSGs you can be really fertile, so maybe this will be a good month for you!
