So the midwife practice just called me back. I told the MW about my doctor and how all these tests and genetic counseling and high risk consults and everything felt like overkill. WELL.... because of all that they won't accept me.
She is giving me kind of a second chance though. I'm going to see the OB that the MW practice is associated with and if the OB approves it then I can transfer to the midwives. I'm not sure why it wouldn't be approved but who knows what the current doctor has written in my chart and records?
I'm so frustrated! Now I'm stuck with the doctor that I hate until right around the end of the first trimester so I'm going to pretty much HAVE to do the first tri screening/bloodwork/etc just to prove to the new doc that there isn't anything wrong! I should never have made an appointment with my old doctors office. I hated the OB I had with DD and he was from the same practice. I should have known better and not been so impatient and just waited to see this new OB in January! I am so P*$$ED at myself right now! I'm to the point of saying forget it all! I've got my prenatals and I've given birth before so I'm just going to rent a doppler and do this all by myself!

Hang in there. I had an ob I hated during the first tri. I had a lot of bleeding, not just spotting, bleeding, with clots and he just kind of said, well, if you're gonna lose the baby you're gonna lose the baby, no point in bloodwork or ultrasound. So I basically spent the first tri worrying, and ended up paying a huge co-pay to go to the ER and get an ultrasound because I felt like I had to know that everything was okay. But eventually I did switch, and am still happy I did, and at least after the first tri I had the kind of care I wanted.

I would get a copy of your records and See for yourself what they are writing about you.

Just go to the medical records office at your doctors/hospital and ask to see your records.

Aw Sara I had an ob like that and then went and found my midwife. When I told my ms about all the tests the ob wanted todo she agreed that they are test pushy because they are soooo medical. So keep trying don't give up. Good luck.

I looked up medical record laws for PA. I just printed out a letter requesting that ALL records they have for me be mailed to me (That way I can make copies as I need to for the new OB, MW's or whoever). They have 30 days to either get me the records or request a 30 days extension. That means I probably still won't have my records before I see the new OB but at least I can say they are coming!

U can actually go to the doc and get a copy of your records on the spot. Just tell them that you're thinking about switching OBs and you want your records. They have to give it to you.
Have u talked to the new OB yet? The one that you'll b seeing in Jan?

No dont bother with the paper, go to your dr's tell them you need your medical records, and sign a waver to release them to you. Their your records, and since your transferring, then they dont need them makes your new OB's job much easier

Actually PA law says they have 30 days no matter what. So it's pointless to drive out there. I could sign the waiver and be allowed to SEE my records but they have 30 days to get me copies (they are required to maintain the originals in their files for a certain period of time). They can also deny me copies of my records if they think anything in there would cause me to harm myself or others. I'm guessing that applies more to mental health records and not OB's but who knows? They might try to deny me the records just so I have to go through the appeals process and get a third party review. At the very least my new OB should be able to request all my test results and my u/s and first tri screening results won't be in until after the tests are completed so I might wait a few days to send the request so that those tests will be completed within the 30 days they have to get my records to me.

That SUCKS, I agree with the others, do what you've got to do to get your medical records and see why they are trying to say you are high risk.
