That my LO attempted to bf for the first time?! I haven't even tried since he was 6 weeks old. But just this week, he finally mastered the paci. Before it would just fall out of his face because he wouldn't suck. This week he has had that thing in his mouth all the time. So I was bored today and held him to my breast. He actually latched on right away and sucked for 5 minutes before getting upset!!! OK, not perfectly- he would suck for about 10 seconds, then pull off, then relatch right away. He must have got a little milk because I could see some on the edges of my mouth. But then he did drink several ounces from the bottle right after.

I'm just in shock. We tried for 6 weeks after his birth, including biweekly visits from a midwife/lactation consultant at our home with absolutely zero luck (at most he latched for 3 seconds). After all that time of us both being in tears each time we tried, I gave up.

Now I'm not sure what to think. To be honest, I don't even know if I WANT to bf at this point. Maybe that makes me sound like a bad mother?? He is just shy of 3 months old, and I want to begin weaning at 6 months anyway. For me, pumping is easy. Hmmm, decisions, decisions.

Wow! That's pretty cool! I'd say do what your gut is telling you and if you planned on weaning him in 3 months anyway, I personally would just stick with pumping

It is definitely possible! I know a woman at La Leche meetings who had twins and she didn't BF them at first (due to crazyness and them being preemies) she just pumped. But then once they got older she said she'd have them try to latch when things were relaxed and they weren't super hungry and they took to it.
I think it would be worth giving it a shot.

I say stick with what works, the pumping and all that.....he's getting breast milk and that is important...you are not a bad mom for not wanting to breast feed....it took everything in me to BF my son for the 4 or 5 weeks that I did...with Nora I was more into but still at 8 weeks I had had enough! I feel like a great mom despite not loving the whole bf'ing thing...and your a great mom too

That's cool. I can only suggest that you go with your gut feelings.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool that a 3 month old baby would still have those instincts!!! But then I started feeling guilty for not trying longer. I have had SO many people pretty much say that I should have tried harder if I wanted to do what's best for him. Anyway, I am happy enough pumping. My boobs respond great to the pump... maybe they don't know any better, lol.

I think that it's really neat that he latched on. I think since you want to stop giving him breastmilk in three months it's most likely better to just pump like you have been doing. It might be harder on the both of you to wean him off the breast. It will be easier to just switch the bottle from BM to formula. But do what your heart tells you to do.

That doesn't make you a bad mommy at all! He is getting the same benefits, whether from bottle or booby, so just go with whatever you are happy with.
