I'm just looking for a little reassurance. I know some of you out there had babies that didn't gain weight very quickly, so I was wondering how much they gained and how quickly? Post your stats please!

Xander is a long and lean baby, my doctor has no concerns about his weight and he is a very healthy baby so I know I shouldn't worry, but I can't help it! I still do!!

Birth: 6 lb 14 oz and 19 inches long
1 Month: 7 lb 10 oz and 21 1/2 inches long
2 Month: 8 lb 10 oz and 22 3/4 inches long

I'll have him weighed at 3 months in a few weeks to make sure he's progressing... I'm still exclusively breastfeeding, but I've toyed with the idea of buying an electric pump and replacing half his feedings with pumped milk to ensure he's eating enough. I'd still nurse him several times a day as well, just because we both enjoy it. Is that stupid? I'm not doing anything til I talk to my doctor, I just feel like he should be gaining more. I'm probably just being paranoid... Which is why I'd like some reassurance from those of you that were in the same boat!

It seems to me that he's growing very well! I don't have any memory of what Gemma weighed at each visit but I don't think she gained much more than that! If he follows his pattern of a pound a month then he'll weigh close to 20 pounds by a year and that's a good weight!

Hmm, I don't know. My LO has gained a lot more, but that's not to say that your guy is not normal, as well. Jax drinks 30-32 oz expressed BM daily. He is also long and lean.

Birth: 5 lbs 15 oz, 19 inches
5 wks: 9.1 lbs, 21 inches
10 weeks: 13 lbs (with clothes/diaper on)
12 weeks (today!): 14 lbs... with onsie and diaper on; based on my bathroom scale

Landen has always been huge for his age its weird because I am only 5ft and Chris 5'7. Every kid grows so differently. I have a friend who's 12 month old is only 16lbs (Landen was 16lbs at 4 months) and he is just as healthy and happy as Landen!

If I were you I would keep up just BF!!!! Most BF babies are on the smaller side.

BTW Xander has the most sweet little lips ever!!!

Try not to worry about it. Oliver has always been long and lean. He has been at the bottom of the percentile the last few appointments. When he was Xander's age he gained about the same. I'm nursing right now so I can't look up his weight gains but if you want I can post them later. My doc has never been concerned and I ask at each visit I personally would not pump cause it's no fun. If your doc isn't concerned don't sweat it. I know that is easier said than done. Just wait until he is Oliver's age and you fight to get him to eat solids each day. It can be a real strugle if he is a picky eater.

btw, Oliver weighed 20 lbs at 12 months old.

He seem's pretty good to me

Seamus he was my big baby for a while, then evened out and now is a big boy
Birth: 7lbs 9oz, 21"
1mo: 11lbs 5oz, 22"
2mo: 13lbs 1oz, 23.5"
at 1yr he was 21-22lbs, but he had to start whole milk at 11mo because between 4mo-11mo he only weighed 18lbs, one month he'd go up a couple oz the next he'd be down.

Kieran had bad weight problems, we were lucky they didn't hospitalize her.
Birth: 6lbs 13oz, 19.5"
2weeks: 5lbs 9oz, 18" (ya she srunk...and it wasn't from a cone head, she was breech she had a round head)
1mo: 7lbs 2oz(supplemented with pumped milk)
2mo: 10lbs 2oz

Kieran will be 9mo old in a week and weighs just over 18lbs, 26 1/4"(20% for height, shes short)and is still 100% bf, we try solids but she wants them but doesn't, she drives me batty.

Also pumping may not help, baby is able to empty more from a breast then a pump can.
With Kieran's weight issues at first(and shes still smaller at the 40%) they said on average babies gain 1-2lbs a month for the first few months. As long as he's wetting 6-8diapers a day and pooing every once in a while(close to 3mo babies will start getting patterns and may not poo every day) then he is getting enough.

I would say if your doc isn't worried than he's probably fine...they've seen it all and would tell you if it was a problem. I would keep up the EBF if its going well and you both like it! My babies are/were chunkers but then again both were on formula exclusively around 2 months...and both LOVE (Loved) solids and food of all kinds!!!.......now however Harrison is at the bottom of the growth chart and is by far one of the smallest boys (and even small as the girls) in his class at 3 1/2! Most kids come into their real size around 2 or 3 I think....but some not until their growth is about done in like middle or high school

If he is healthy, if he IS getting bigger, if he is having more than 6 dirty diapers a day.......your all good girl!
I would really not recommend pumping....mainly because you will obsess over it and cause more stress about it. But also your body/baby work together in harmony.
babies self teach how to eat..your milk changes while they eat-so watery at first with more the fat in the "back" so if they just want a drink they nurse quickly and lightly if they are hungry they work at getting that back milk. they know what they are doing--Plus the milk changes during they day each "serving" of boob correlates with what your baby's needs are.....have trust in your baby and your body...they are doing great!

As long as your on the chart and the chart is curving up your fine...THATS the thing they look for, their HAS to be kids on the bottom and the top--not everyone can be in the middle. It looks like his wt is in the 5-10% of the charts---its on the low sidebut this doesn't mean he is unhealthy and you should push more food (which statistically is what accidentally happens with bottles). London is the opposite problem he is on the top side--again healthy. You worry that you need to feed him more is the exact same as it would be worrying he is eating to much and I should put him on a diet (he is also EBF)....your would say NO WAY. Its the same thing, just other side of the chart. LOL We both have healthy boys....and so what if you have the thin quarterback and I have the fatty defensive line--it makes a good team

Thanks guys, I really needed to hear that from y'all. I don't have any friends around here that have exclusively breast fed (always formula or pumped after they went back to work), so I don't have anyone I can ask. I did talk to my mom and she said we were all slow gainers as babies as well, and all of us (4 kids) turned out okay, so I know I'm worrying for nothing. lol. I do pump 3-4 oz every morning at Xander's first feeding of the day just so I have a bit of a stash, but I use a manual pump. I hate that thing, but I like having a little security in the freezer or the very occasional bottle if I need to run to the store w/o the baby. I try not to do that too often so I don't mess up my supply.

I will say, however, that Xander is definitely a lazy eater. Not at every feeding, but of his 6-7 feedings a day he eats great at about 3 of them, otherwise he's more of a snacker and then falls asleep. But he does have a bunch of wet diapers every day and a poopy diaper most days, though he will occasionally skip a day or two (and my dr said that's normal). I used to think I bought way too many cloth diapers, but now I'm considering buying 5 more. lol. I have 28 diapers and do laundry every 2 - 2 1/2 days!!! I'm so glad we don't use disposables, we'd be freakin' broke! hahaha.
