So some of my friends think Im a complete nut for wanting to wait till after Izzy's born so I can see if Ill need a 32lb carseat or not. Ian was huge, and would have benefited from a 32lb seat. He was out of his at 4 months old!! Where as Morgan was still in hers AFTER her birthday!! Is this a valid thought? or am I seriously retarded and should just get a carseat and say screw it?

I honestly dont know. With her being a girl I want to say she would maybe be like Morgan?? So just go stuff it and buy one.
But its up to you.
Will your hospital let you home without a carseat? I know with ours you have to have a car seat before they will let you home.

At the very least I would have two specific ones picked out that a family member could buy at the drop of a hat!
4 months??? He was 22lbs at 4 months? My oh my! I would think your next would follow Morgan but you never know!

Emma - Im having a homebirth so hubby could go pick one up when we figure out how big she is
Steph - Ian was 18lbs at 4 months and that car seat only went up to 20. he was almost too long for it as well and he was HEAVY when we carried him around - so I chose to put him in a convertible, it sucked but you gotta do what you gotta do! Morgan used the same seat, and was in it well past a year old, she was about 18lbs at 14 months when we took her out of it since she finally started walking.
Im PRAYING Izzy is small like Morgan Having an almost 10lb kid wasnt fun, but he was suuuuuch a good baby

Ah okay I forgot you are having a homebirth. The only problem I see is, what if for some reason you did end up with a hospital birth? Hope you get your homebirth for sure but just saying you never know. I personally wouldn't want my hubby to have to be going out and buying/installing a carseat right after baby was born if I was in the hospital and needing to come home.
I'm assuming the one from Ian/Morgan is too old.
Is there anyone you could borrow a carseat from just to have it installed *just in case*? Then after Izzy was born you could give the loaner one back and go buy the one you want!

Hmmm...that's a tough choice but I understand your dilemma.
I think that in this case, if it was me, I'd buy a convertible that goes from birth up to booster. If after the baby's born, it's more convenient to get an infant seat, then I'd get one. The convertible will still be there to use when she gets older.

I'd definitely get a carseat in the event that (God forbids) something happens and you HAVE to go to the hospital to give birth or after birth.

I would just go ahead and get a convertible carseat. At least you will have something to take baby to the doctors or something if you need to. And you could even leave it in the box until birth. If you end up going to the hospital throw the whole box in the car and go. If not then DH can take it back if need be.

I would get a convertiable seat because you will need it either way. If you want the newborn infant seat you can pick one up after Izzy is born if needed. But I would have to have something or I would feel unprepared but that's just me.

We are skipping the infant seat all together, we have the First Years True Fit in the basement to be installed in a couple more weeks. After spending $$$ on a ring sling and a babyhawk...I couldn't see spending the money on an infant seat when Nolan wont be lugged around in it. Those things are so darn heavy!!!

Ya. I'd just get a convertible then! I would want SOMETHING right away for baby. I'd feel so unprepared not having a seat.

My DD is a petite girl and my son, looks like he's going to be a chunky monkey..
I wasn't really sure how big my son was going to be. They predicted him to be a 10 lb baby but he was only 7 lbs 13 oz when he was born.. I decided around 34 weeks that I wanted a 22 lb carrier.. I just can't imagine myself lugging around a kid over 22 lbs.. Since at that time my daughter was 23 lbs at 22 months.. What I did, was buy A.J's convertible car seat so when he out grows his infant seat, it will be an easy transition..
If my son was a spring baby, I would have just went with a convertible, but since he was a Fall baby a infant carrier worked best for us.. Keeps him warm and I don't need to bundle him up since I use a Bundle me with his carrier to keep him warm in those single digit temperatures.
Oh, and if by chance you do have to go to the hospital.. Your husband can pick one up when your in post partum.. Honestly, it will be alright if he left for 30 minutes to get the seat.. Just have a plan set up and just tell him where to go.. And he's probably already a pro at installing the base, it doesn't take vary long to do..

thank you all very much!! And I do like the idea of wearing baby more than carrying her in the seat...but we are on the go peep's - hubby wants to get the 32lber "just in case" and he said it would help us out more in the long run. Seeing as she will be in it during the hot summer months, maybe there might be more room for ventilation, just a thought of his? Now off to find out which patterns I like for the 30lb ones....still havent decided between graco or chicco.....so many choices!!!

Good luck on deciding.. I have the Chicco Keyfit 22 and love it..
Oh, I always like to through this out about the Chicco Keyfit.. They don't clip on to the front of shopping carts. They were designed not to because it's a safety issue.. Just be aware of that if you decide on the Chicco..

my SIL had a home birth planned (at my home!) and we ended up having to go to the hospital so it was a good thing we had the car seat bc it is tru they dont let you leave without it & they even check the straps and make sure baby is in there well. now i'm not sure how midwives are where you are but its very regulated here so as soon as meconium was suspected we had to leave home....some places it might not be so stringent though
