We cannot get rid of his diaper rash!! I feel so badly for my little guy.
So as I posted, he was teething last week and had some loose stools. It was hard to keep him dry and he developed a mild rash. We switched to cloth dipes during the day and use California Baby rash cream, and then use Butt Paste at night with his disposables. It got alot better but was still lingering. I figured just a few more days and he'd be fine.
Then MIL took him Friday because I needed to get some rest and wasn't feeling well. I've tried giving him the Gerber yogurt melts before and he didn't have a good reaction. So I told her not to give him any since I knew she had them. And of course she gives him a ton! He woke up with a massive poopy dipe (I have no idea how long he was sitting in it), all over his sleeper and crib sheet, and he's had a terrible rash since. He screams everytime I put him on the changing table because he knows what I'm going to do. We stopped using the Pampers wipes and are using baby wash cloths with just some water. I try to dab and not rub him too hard. But between his his rash and loose stools from upset tummy, it's impossible to keep him dry
When I changed his last dipe, I think it's starting to blister. It's beat red from his genitals to his mid back. I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow but what can I do until then? I gave him some Motrin last night because he wouldn't stop screaming. Should I stop using the creams? Should I use baby powder? Should I even bathe him (I didn't last night)? And lastly, how am I suppose to let him be dipe free for long to get air? He won't stay still in one place for long and I'm afraid he'll pee everywhere.

Por little guy! I think maybe you will just have to put up with him pee everywhere so he can air it out. Do you have a lot of waterproof pads? If so, you could lay them all across the floor like a pee resistant liner. I don't use either of those diaper rash crams, but I use one with herbal stuff in it that works well. Sounds like it will have to just clear on its own though since what you used worked well already? Those are my only idea, I hope it clears up soon.

One morning Matthew was fairly red so I put a waterproof pad down in his pack and play and let him be naked for 15-20 minutes while I got ready for the day. He normally doesn't want to be in his pack and play but the novelty of being naked kept him happy. He hadn't eaten yet that morning and had already peed his diaper from the night feed so he didn't even end up peeing.
I hope his rash gets better soon!

Could you loosely tie a hand towl around his booty? So it's not skin hugging like a nappy but is enough that would catch any tinkles? If you do bathe him, don't use soap on it and don't use any bubble bath in the water. Just plain warm water.
What about does he eat in a highchair? You could lay a towel under his butt, put him in nakee, and let him be "free" whilst he eats lunch?

Poor Henry I'd just let him crawl around even if he pees on the floor. Rylie does that now and I just clean up real good after she's gone. It was the only way to clear up the diaper rash she had.

Nakee time is probably one of the most beneficial things you can do right now - even if it means having a mess to clean up. I would still give him a bath, just no soap on the diaper rash, rinse the area with warm water only.
Also, you can try this amazing diaper rash cream that is cloth diaper friendly: Northern Essence Diaper Rash Salve. It is the bomb diggity - poor Violet has had some bleeding rashes before from her GI issues and this stuff really helped! It was soothing for her broken skin as she would stop crying as soon as I put it on her and helped to clear things up quickly. It's also a GREAT barrier to protect skin from future bad bowel movements. Quite a few cloth diaper shops carry this salve - I don't know exactly where you are in MD but there is a place in Baltimore that carries it: Soft and Cozy Baby.

awe poor guy!! I would totally just let him be free and just let whatever happens.. that stuff can be cleaned up but he needs to be better soon.
Give him a bath in warm water and use baby wash in other areas. Dry him off real good and let him do some air out time.
Poor guy, hope it clears up soon!

Well we tried to give him lots of nakie time today. And he peed on the floor 3 times and pooped once. Quite a nuisance but I just feel so badly for him.
We also gave him a bath in just warm water and slathering on cream every time we change his dipe. When I hold him nakie, I'm very surprised at how much heat is coming from his butt. It's like melting the cream on contact!
I'm totally calling the doctor tomorrow. I hope it's not a yeast infection

I think it is a good idea to get him into the pedi just to make sure he doesn't have a yeast infection. I definitely agree that you should give him as much naked time as possible, even though it is a pain to clean up. The only things my pedi suggested were nakie time, no soap/bubbles, NO Desitin (she said this actually will aggravate the pain! she suggested butt paste/vaseline based stuff only), and not using baby wipes, but to moisten cloth with very warm water.
I really hope he gets better soon! *hugs* for him!

So he's still red and splotchy this morning. But it's not covering so much area anymore. Should I still call the doctor? I'm already not crazy about his pedi and I seriously don't want this man to look at me like I'm an idiot.
BTW DH is being paranoid cause he's been pulling at his right ear alot lately. But don't babies do that when they teethe? DH had tons of ear infections as a child and has lost alot of hearing as a result.

I don't know much about the diaper rashes, which is why I steered clear, not for my lack of love for Hank, but I do know the ear pulling and the teething can definitely be connected!! Hope my little love bug is feeling better ASAP!

When Miki had a diaper rash (her Bio-mom stopped using power) I used Destin and Powder. I use powder every time I put a dipe or pull-up on her to avoid friction b/w the dipe/pull-up and her skin and to try to prevent rashes. I also make sure I lotion her butt well.
That might not work for some, but it works for us.

Jack never pulled at his ear with teething. Since that is the classic sign for ear infection, I think you may end up taking him in. Just wear some kick @ss boots when you go in case the pedi acts like a butt.
Glad his rash is better!
