How long does a cold last usually? Oliver got one on Christmas Day and he still has it! It's been over two weeks. He has had a runny nose. It's usually clear snot but sometimes a little greenish? He is so sick of me wiping it. Sometimes he grabs his ears but he does that in general. Sometimes when nursing to sleep he wakes up choking and gets all upset. I'm guessing it's the drainage?
Should I take him to the doc? My instinct says no because I think it's just a cold. No fever and he seems like normal. This is the third cold he has ever had. THe other two only last about a week.

The boys and I have been battling colds for about 2 weeks now and their noses are still dripping. A doctor isn't going to do anything for them so we just ride it out. When they get really stuffed up I give them some saline nose drops and that seems to help. I'll also bring them into the bathroom with me when I take a shower so the steam helps loosen the mucous up too.
I hope Oliver feels better soon!

Honestly? J.J has been battling congestion/sneezing/running nose and a cough since he was 3 weeks old. Its a horrible cycle where he gets sick for 2 weeks, is better for 3 weeks, sick for 2 weeks, etc etc.
Most colds are supposed to last 7-14 days.

I think 2 weeks is normal? But sometimes I get longer ones, as do the boys. The symptoms change but it's still there.
Hope he gets over it very soon! I don't think the doctor will do anything

Matthew's had a runny nose/congestion for 11 days now. (He's always a little bit congested though). I was wondering when it's going to be gone! He freaks out when I try to wipe his nose and using saline drops, omg, you'd think I was torturing him. I run a humidifier in his room. I feel bad for him when he nurses because he gets all snorty and snuffly. I hope Oliver gets over his cold soon!

It just depends on which strain of the cold he has. I hope it goes away soon. That applies too to all our other babies.

It seems so long because the past ones only lasted a week. I know docs can't do anything and I'm not one to run to a doc for every little thing anyways. I just wanted to make sure it's normal because I have not had a bad cold in years. Mine only last a couple days or so. Thanks for the responses. I guess a lot of our LO's have colds right now.

My colds have always gone away after a few days, though I have no idea about children. I hope he gets to feeling better soon!
