Personally, I'm waiting until Kirsty is properly walking, and steady on her feet. They grow so fast. Here, we are recommended to get their feet measured every 6wks once they start wearing proper shoes

Right now, Kirsty wears soft leather ones like what Stephenie makes, moreso to keep her socks on & feet warm. Plus to help her grip when she pulls up to stand and walks about the furniture as we have wooden flooring.

My kids had the soft bottom ones since they were born - but REAL shoes I got him them at the point where they could pull himself up, so they could get used to them. I usually got them at Target, for around $10-$12. They will be big bulky things till Jack gets used to them, but then hell be more comfortable walking in them if hes used to them I usually got them the tennis shoe kind, avoid flat bottoms, as those dont help their arch move and support while their learning.

Boys' Shoes : Shoes : Target

of course youll need to go into the store to see what they really have - but the white pair on the 2nd row are ideal for learning to walk

I waited till Mia was walking propperly before she got her 1st pair of shoes. Like Fiona said, over here we are recomended to get their feet remeasured every 6wks, and Since she had her 1st pair of shoes last febuary, Mia's feet have not grown a single shoe size

He's been wearing harder soled shoes when we are out, only because it's cold and they are cute haha.. but he doesn't walk in them or stand, play or anything. He's always carried.

For other times he wears shoes I make, soft soled, slipper like ones that are grippy on the bottom.

Once he's properly walking and will be walking out side of the house, I'll get something like a flexible sole. It's hard but has bending and flexing. Not sure of brands, I NEED to buy him some but need to find the right pair.

I agree! thats why I suggest a tennis shoe vs like a skate shoe. The are shaped to the feet and will support better than a flat soled shoe - but I let them wear them to get used to them if they can pull themselfs up that way there not re-learning how to walk with new shoes. Everyone's got their own ways of doing things

i plan to get those little robeez leather shoes, i just find them irresistibly cute!
i think they have something similar at like target with tons of cute designs if i remember from the last time i was there. i think you can get them for 0-3 mos, and i will probably put them on my baby to keep the socks on since it will be fall/winter and if it is anything like me it will always have cold feet!

Oliver started wearing shoes right around his first birthday. We went with pediped and I love them! They have a soft leather sole and are so cute. I bought them at Nordstroms but you can order them online or find them in other stores. They cost about $30-35. My mom also got him a pair of Stride Rite shoes but I didn't like them as much. Oliver only wears shoes when we go out. If we are inside it's socks or barefeet when warm.

Btw, I let Oliver learn to walk w/o shoes on. I personally think shoes get in the way of a brand new walker. I got the flex shoes once he became a pro walker. Pediped makes the leather bottom for beginners and the flex sole for walkers. There are a lot of good brands out there. See Kai Run and Pedipeds are two of my favorites. They shoes are sooo stinkin cute.

We use the Pediped Originals when the girls were either not walking or had just begun walking and this was only when we were going out and it was cold. Otherwise, it's just socks or barefeet. Once they become older and want to walk around outside, we switched over to the Pediped Flex or Stride Rites. Lily had orthopedic issues with her feet when she was born and her ortho doc only recommended Pedipeds and Stride Rites.
