Yesterday was my HSG...I must admit as 2:00pm neared and as I was driving to the hospital i was getting SO scared! I was remembering all the bad things I read about the procedure! But when I got in there I asked the tech how bad it will hurt and she said "Ehh, not really too bad at all...kind of like a little more of an intense pap..."-then she looked down at the Dr who was doing it-my RE- and said "Oh Dr. Witten is doing it...honestly I dont know what it is about him but he must be very gentle every women who gets an HSG performed by him says its a breeze" and that made me feel so comfortable, there are more and more reasons everyday to love my RE. Then he walks in and asks how im doing...asks if im taking my Folgard. He always calls me "Ash" its so funny but it makes me feel very comfortable. I lay down and he sticks the speculum in, then right away the cath, and if he hadnt told me afterwards that he just put the cath in I would have had no idea it was done already!!! It was pretty awesome. Because that was the part I was scared about having read horror stories online I felt nothing...other than him putting in the speculum. Okay so the x-ray tech comes in and heres where I have some questions for you ladies who have had HSG's. He puts the dye in and automatically it starts spilling out of my left tube...then the right looked SO weird it was like a big ball of darkness and looked nothing like the left. They had me lean right to left then right to left again and the dye was still just sitting there on the right side in like a "ball"? He kept forcing more dye in (that part hurt a little bit but not too bad) and after rolling back and forth and sitting there waiting for about 5 minutes (the tech said the WHOLE procedure should take 5 mins, and it took about 15 because of waiting for the other tube to spill) it finally spurted out a little bit, but looked nothing like the left tube. The left tube was a clear little squiggly line and the dye ran RIGHT through it, the right was a big jumbled ball of tube it looked like...idk. Then he said okay looks good, ill see you Monday...so and so will show you back upstairs! Ugh! I feel like something looked weird and he didnt tell me. Before he even put the dye in he showed me my uterus on the xray machine and said it was "picture perfect" but said nothing like this after everything was over about my tubes. Im not trying to be silly...I know i get pregnant no problem and obviously even if there was something going on with my right tube, i KNOW eggs get through on the left side because I get pregnant so easily...but it just didnt look right! You girls whove had an HSG did your tubes look the same on both sides...or look anything like what I describe my right one looked like?

Glad it went well! My HSG was completely painless too. Some REs just have the touch I guess, if your anatomy is cooperative too of course.
I don't remember seeing a ton of dye spill out of both tubes, and I too had to change positions some. But my RE said it was all good so I didn't worry. Maybe just ask b/c you thought it looked weird? I am not much help, but if you were having somewhat inhibited ovulation on one side, it sounds like he may have cleared it! Yay for increased fertility!

I have an ultrasound scheduled for this coming Monday to check my eggies so I will be asking him then...I was just wondering in the meantime if anyone remembers their tubes looking like that. I swear I never saw spillage but the tech said "some spillage on right side" so I guess it did end up spilling. All i saw was the dye just filling up on that side and creating what looked like a huge jumbled ball. Idk...

Hopefully someone else has had experience with this and can relate I know that I couldn't make much of anything on the screen. I am bad with ultrasound pics too, though. It all looks like a mess to me!

It sounds like you might have had a small blockage. That would explain why it was building up. If that's the case then it must have cleared so that it could spill. Lots of people get pregnant after an HSG! Just a small piece of tissue can block the tube but the pressure from the dye probably cleared it! Ask at your appointment but I bet if there was something it cleared itself and that's why he said all was good!
I can't wait to see your BFP Ash!

Glad it went well....I have never experienced an HSG or anything like it, but a small/minor blockage sounds like what you would be describing? But, like I said, Im no expert at all!! I am just excited you are one step closer to your BFP!!

When I did mine I also had not much pain. Yay for that!
So when the dye went through mine I noticed one tube looked way different than the other. I can't remember if it was jumbled looking I just was suprised they didn't look the same. I think maybe it was the angle or who knows??? I asked them at the time if both tubes looked okay and my RE said yes.
Maybe that's just the way the tubes look? I'll be interested to hear what your Dr says. It was hard for me to tell what I was looking at during my HSG, I thought the picture would be more clear if that makes sense, but it wasn't.

Totally makes sense Shannon! When the dye started going through I thought they were going to say my tubes were deformed or something because it did NOT look right! (as compared to the other tube) I kept looking at their faces and back at the screen and they didnt make any weird faces or anything, so i guess im not deformed!

mine had perfect flow through my left tube and my right tube had issues but flowed eventually and looked different. After my second lap it became obvious why, I had endo on the tube and it was twisting it. My doc wasn't concerned since there was still flow through.

If if makes you feel better, sometimes its hard to see the tube because of the angle. I remember my left tube was easy to see. Looked like a tube. The right looked weird though and the doc seemed to have a hard time deciding if there was spill. I looked at the films afterwards, and it was just that the tube went back (towards my spine) so the picture was more the angle of looking down a tunnel rather than seeing the length of the tube. But then there was a picture from another angle, and you could see it clearly. Sounds like good news! Glad yours was painless. That **** speculum, my doc was not gentle.
