Riddle me this!

I don't really get the username change extravaganza that's been going on as of late. I know after the Bre situation a lot of people realized they should post less compromising information about themselves on the internet, and while I absolutely hate that it happened, I'm glad that people on JM are at least learning from her misfortune. But I still don't get why people are changing their usernames. I've considered changing mine for a long time cause 1. I think LadyCoconut is kind of lame, haha, and 2. family still send me email to my ladycoconut email and so I'm easily google-able under this name and I'd hate for any one IRL to stalk me. So is that what everyone's concern is? That they already have said something compromising on JM somewhere and you're worried about someone IRL finding you? Because changing your name on here doesn't really change anything. I mean all the people who know 'dirt' on you still know who you are when your username changes. So if I'm understanding correctly... people are changing it not because they're worried something similar to what happened w/ Breanna will happen with them - but because they just realized how much we are exposing ourselves in general and people IRL could find us? I don't get it.

So what am I missing? I must be missing something obvious, but I've been trying to figure this out for a couple days now and I just can't come up with anything. I feel kind of stupid.

well #1, Im not changing anytime soon - I know Im Bethy on here but Im gizimomo86 EVERYWHERE - search for me, Im probably mucho stalkable. I just dont get it either. Unless the person changing has something to hide?

I just didn't want my name as my username anymore. Made it a bit TOO easy. I know people could find me, but I just don't want a neon sign pointing my way

I miss my old name

I want to be able to brag about Reid but I wish I could make my name/siggy so that someone who just stumbled across it wouldn't immediatly know it was me if they knew me IRL.

I just made a lame new text only siggy.....It just says Bre....Reid's name isn't in it at all

Sad.

Mine was a change because after the crash last week I couldn't log in for like 4 days. this makes it easier. plus, I was sick of my old one...

I was annoyed that everyone did it at once. Now I like them. The old ones were boring. I am still contemplating baconslut, but don't think the mods would let me keep it for long.

I have changed mine a lot. I don't even remember what it used to be.

I changed it in the Bre-ness and now it's just changed and I like it better than having my name.

I also wanted to say, that IRL I have told many people about this site whom I think could benefit from it!! I don't want them to be able to easily locate me when searching around!!! I get that people can still find me and obviously a siggy will give it away, I just didn't want people I know skimming through forums and happen to come across a post with my name!!!

Just wondered if you know... siggies aren't visable to guests. One has to be registered & logged in to see them. I know registering is easy but a lot of folk may just browse as a guest, KWIM?

I changed mine looong ago for kicks.. But then during my pregnancy either I was super paranoid or I was right, a family member was JM stalking me. I just stopped posting at that point and went back and deleted a few posts I didn't want out there.. I don't know, that's one of the things I hate about forums, you just have no idea who's reading what you put out there.

I've also wanted tochange mine so it's not my name. I have told alot of fam and friends about JM and guests would see Anna and maybe think it's me. And I'm bored of it too. Others have cute fun user names so maybe il change mine soon. Maybe not.

None of my friends or people I know besides Will knows that I'm on JM and I would like to keep it that way. Although many of my JM friends are my friends on FB, I dont post anything that has anything to do with JM on my page. I'll comment on someone else's page maybe only if they mention JM on theirs and then delete "Michelle posted a comment on XXX wall" from my page.

My username is different from the other screen names that I use but I dont really plan on changing it unless maybe after Lani's born. But I probably still wont change it then either b/c I'm lazy! Nobody knows this username besides everyone on JM.

I just figure that some people want to appear less searchable and anonymous like Morgs said.

I have had the same name the whole time I've been here.. I've thought about changing it because it is pretty much my user name on everyother site I'm a member of but I like it so I probably won't ever change it!! I totally understand changing it if it was your name and I think that is why a lot of girls changed theirs!

I don't mind having my real name as my username. It's a common name, so people can't know it's me just because they see Caroline. Not to mention that most people I know wouldn't visit a mommy site in English so I feel safe (well, as safe as one can be online).

I'm trying to be more cautious about what I mention though. I don't think I've ever named my employer or shown pictures of my home. I decided not to put pictures in my siggy too, but that's mostly because I was sick of seeing my face in every post I made

I've always been fond of the creative names like soimarriedanerd, scottishbrit, alicenwonderland, ladycoconut, etc. and now angelasaurus-rex. I think the creative names are really cool.

I want to change mine so my name isn't in it, but I haven't decided on anything yet. The only thing holding me back is I know then ppl who used to know me would have a hard time. Like I go back and "stalk" people I used to know better and when they change their usernames I can't find them anymore.

I also delete anything on FB that has to do with JM. I don't want anyone trying to stalk me on here. I'm not really worried about anyone doing anything with information, it's more just I'd rather not have people IRL reading things about my private life that I have shared on here, like if I vent about Dh or MIL or whatever...

Oh Michelle I would love you forever if you got the username baconslut.
