So Ive been reaserching this since I said screw tylenol for my migraines. I didint like seeing you lovely ladies suffer either....and wanted to share this tidbit....Now once again, this keeps me on the "not so crunchy" list but I figured you'd like the info, and make the decision yourself

Did you know:
How much caffeine is in your favorite drinks & snacks?
Starbucks Grande Coffee (16 oz) 400 mg
Starbucks House Blend Coffee (16 oz) 259 mg
Dr. Pepper (12 oz) 37 mg
7 Eleven Big Gulp Diet Coke (32 oz) 124 mg
7 Eleven Big Gulp Coca-Cola (32 oz) 92 mg
Ben & Jerry's Coffee Buzz Ice Cream (8 oz) 72 mg
Baker's chocolate (1 oz) 26 mg
Green tea (6 oz) 40 mg
Black tea (6 oz) 45 mg
Excedrin (per capsule) 65mg

How much caffeine is too much?

"The less caffeine you consume, the better. Some experts say more than 150 mg of caffeine a day is too much, while others say more than 300 mg a day is too much. Avoiding caffeine as much as possible is your safest course of action. If you must get your fix, it is best to discuss this with your health care provider to make the healthiest choice for you and your baby."

With this said - you are safe taking 1 excedrin with 1 can of dr pepper. The only reason the midwife says to not take it is well #1 the caffeine and #2 its got asprin in it so if you were to go into labor with it in your system you could risk hemorrhaging. Then in that sittuation there is a herb called Shepard's purse that stops hemorrhaging. SO survey says - if you are to get a migraine just stick with 1 every 6-8 hours to help you fight off the migraine, along with a Dr pepper (less caffeine than a coke)

If you were to take an excedrin with a dr pepper that equals out to 102mg of caffeine - under the recommended dose of caffeine. USUALLY 1 excedrin and a soda helps get rid of mine, with a bit of sleep and protein.

NOW onto the disclaimer - I am NOT an expert and yes there are studies showing low birth weight of the baby linked with caffeine. This is if you over exceed this amount per day. by like alot.

nice info

I drink too much caffeine when not pregnant so I was told not to stop because it caused worse headaches when I stopped, I lessened the amount I drank, my OB's said I could have up to 200 (well one of the 3 ob's I saw, but ya 100-300mg is the ok limit)

Thankfully I started getting rid of my caffeine intake before I got pregnant so I don't think my headaches are anything to do with caffeine withdrawal.. I am also at the point where I did my research and I am not going to beat myself up about drinking a coke or two every once in awhile!!!

Thanks for all the info Beth!!

I'm a caffeine head! I go to starbucks about 2 to 3 times/week. I searched the nutritional facts for the drinks that I get and its about 75mg of caffeine.

I dont get headaches. Had about 3 this entire pregnancy.

I never like doing this but as a Caffeine addict I thought I should clarify one thing (coke is less than Dr Pepper)....(vault original and Mt dew were my addictions growing up). With that said....I drank/drink a 20oz of cherry coke almost daily during my pregnancy and now with BFing....so I'm in the opinion of keeping it low but still getting it. And Migraines vs Headaches are a BIG difference....I have only had a couple headaches in my life...but Migraines are so much more severe that the increase caffeine would be better than Morphine or other treatments, so I would use it then. But for a preggo Headache if you know its not withdrawls, caffeine shouldn't be your main treatment. Does that make sense? So the risks of Migraine treatment are higher than caffeine, but the risk of Headache treatments are less than caffeine.

This one is per one can...so it doesn't do the play with amounts.

Well ACTUALLY - I wrote this for the ladies suffering from taking tylenol thinking it will help their headaches. I was trying to say that while excedrin isnt ideal for a headache while pregnant - it wont kill you or the baby, and is certainly safer to take then to make you AND baby suffer through a 4-5 day long headache. Im glad I reassured everyone that 1 coke isnt going to kill the baby. Thank you Angela (you and I are very much alike lol) for updating my chart Im glad theres a fellow mom who sees it like I do
