I'm trying to help my mom figure out what is wrong with her cat. My brother and sil gave my mom their kitten after my grandma's cat my mom had got hit by a car. The cat was good for a couple weeks then all the sudden it started pooping everywhere, its like the runs. Her poor bum area is red and rubbed raw looking. But the poo its almost like its leaking out not like she is trying to go, and its horrid smelling. We tried giving her some de worming medicine, and my mom and her friend cooked some rice and chicken(?) thing cause she read online that that was supposed to help, but nothing has. I think the cat is somewhere between 8-10mo and still very tiny too.

She can't She just had a hysterectomy and is out of work for at least 3weeks(might be longer because they nicked her bladder and she just took out her cathader after 1.5weeks) and her last pay check on last Friday went all to rent and she only has 13hours of sick leave for the entire 3weeks she out, and shes single. I wish we could help but we don't have the money either so we're trying to see if we can figure it out somehow.

Without doing a stool sample at a vets office it would be kinda hard to tell. I know we see alot of animals come in that have taken otc de-wormmer and that actually made them sicker. It could honestly just be worms or it could be something more serious that will probably need medication. Have you tried checking with local vets to see if you guys can do a payment plan? Maybe Sam will think of something that I am missing and help you out some more

It's really hard to say without examining her. It sounds like there is at least some degree of fecal incontinence, which is rarely a good thing. While she may have intestinal parastites, its not necessarily the first thing that comes to mind. The OTC medication (usually piperazine) is largely worthless.
To get to the bottom of it she probably requires basic blood work (including testing for FeLV/FIV), fecal flotation, fecal culture, and an abdominal radiograph or ultrasound. I know that will not come cheaply, so I can only sympathize. It could be anything from parasites, infection (salmonella, clostridium, giardia, ect), intestinal lymphosarcoma, megacolon (usually presents with constipation too though), FeLV, some sort of nervous system problem, a foreign body, ect. While its not very common, some cats get problems with anal sacs like dogs do.
Just try to monitor her as best as possible. They might want to clip the hair around her bum and apply a small amount of vaseline to help the chafing. Its probably best to keep her on her regular food.

Jessie hit the nail on the head. The main thing to do with money being an issue would be a fecal examination and a Giardia test. Do you see anything that looks like spaghetti in the stool or little grains of rice? Is she having any issues with breathing?
Does her bum smell like bad eggs/sulfer? If so, her anal glands might need to be expressed. Its not as common in cats as it is in dogs, but they do get full and it creates issues like leaking and incontinence and a foul odor. Anal glands are a very nasty smell. I rather smell meconium poo then anal glands.
If its a fecal parasite, depending on which parasite treatment will either be an injection of Droncit, Possible pill (Drontal Plus), A yellow dewormer called Pyrantel, or a powder/liquid called panacur.
Is the cat around the kids? If so, keep them away. Some parasites are zoonotic meaning people can get them too -- kids are more likely to get roundworms (the raccoon roundworms are the worst, can make kids go blind) and tapeworms. People can also get giardia as well.
Hope that helps

Thanks ladies. I'll call her and ask but from what I remember seeing nothing spaghetti like in there but I think it looked like it had bits of sand almost.
The kids were only around her 1.5weeks ago when mom got home from surgery, but the cat seeps by my mom's head and has pooed by it quite a few times in the last week.

yikes!! Has your mom tried applying for a care credit card? its a card used ONLY for dr visits and is accepted by most veterinarians. I have one for my horse & dog. Check it out because they she could make a small monthly payment and still be able to get kitty cat feeling better
