Shane and I are having a disagreement over this. Neither one of us have any idea how old our washer and dryer are. I've noticed that since we moved in together my clothes are getting more stained and faded by the wash. Same with DD's. Also our washer tends to leak and leave a puddle of water and bubbles on the concrete of our laundry room every time we wash. We have to wait until it all drains down the floor drain so we can put in another load. He thinks it's a drain problem, I think it's a washer problem.
He got the washer used off some lady his dad knows. We have no idea how long she had it or how it was maintained. Similar story for the dryer. He thinks we should replace the dryer because it looks older but it hasn't given me any problems! I pointed out that we'll be out a lot of money if the washer ruins the cloth diapers and I don't plan on drying them in the dryer often. I would rather use a drying rack on the sun room/porch area. So to me, I would rather replace the washer (or both) but he only wants to replace the dryer! Thoughts? Opinions?
P.S. I get 18 months no interest on my Best Buy credit card so I think we ought to just go ahead and replace both so we know it's done! Any thoughts on that?

If you know you'll pay it off in 18 months, I'd go that route and be done with it. Otherwise, just replace the washer. A good washer for cloth diapers is a serious must-have in my book, and I've been cloth diapering for 3+ years.

Totally agree with Kate.
I LOVE my washer for my dipes. I love all the simple settings and how it can do a TINY load as well as a large one (etc etc). It's key for SURE to have a good working washer for all your washing!!! Things can be dryed on a rack, outside or whatever. Plus your dryer is still working. Your washing machine shouldn't be leaking! haha.
Yup washer or both!!

You can get really nice sets off of Craigslist. My dad has some rental properties, and he has gotten some incredible deals off Craigslist for nearly new appliances.
With that said, I hand dry ALL my clothes except for bath towels and sheets. They last way longer that way, and we save a load on electrical costs.

Oh my. Where do you find the room to do this? I would love to, but I'd have clothing hanging from every hook, hanger, door knob, light fixture, etc. in our apt!

I learned to do it because the flat I rented for the past 3 yrs did not have a dryer, so it was either that or go to the laundromat just to dry clothes. I have 2 big drying racks that I have wedged into our laundry room. In summer I have a clothes line. Oh, and I do dry Jaxon's clothes in the machine. He doesn't have that many things so it would take too long to air dry them.

Thanks ladies! I was planning to use 1/3 of my tax return to pay off some debt but I think I will talk Shane into replacing our washer and dryer. It would be great to get an extra-large capacity set because we're going to have a household of FOUR! OMG!

Totally agree with Kate. If you can afford it up front (like out of your tax return) DEFINITELY go with craigslist...you can get something new and nice for alot cheaper than best buy. But if you have to space out payments, definitely do the 18 month no interest thing and get a new washer and dryer! Either way you definitely need a new washer!

I completely agree with Kate.. We're looking at new washers too, hoping that this car repair I'm having done is $250 instead of $1200!!
