I just watched this documentary online called Pregnant in America and found it VERY interesting. Has anyone here seen it? I found it while searching for The Pregnancy Pact actually... but I was really intrigued by it and thought maybe some of you would be interested in seeing it. it is almost 2 hours long, but I just wanted to post the links just in case anyone is interested. It really made me think about what I want for a birth when that time comes for me. oh and also there is a website ( www.pregnantinamerica.com) that the makers of the movie made.

wow.. I just saw the first part of the video and they are making it sound like giving birth in the hospital a bad thing.. They seem to forget the high risk pregnancy moms, which I was one.. I was induced for medical reasons and I had an epidural with my son and I had gestational diabetes and I was on insulin.. My son was born with a first APGAR score of 9.9 and a 10 at his second test, perfectly healthy and average size.. I think my pregnancy and birth came out perfect..
I dunno.. This video seems to be one sided..
Edit:
I was watching part of the second link.. They are only showing horror stories of giving birth at a hospital.. Where are the stores of the home births that go bad?

This is so interesting !!! They are also making out inductions are bad I know they carry risks as does ANYTHING during child birth ..... both my babies were inductions and my labours were perfect ... fast but perfect .. they were easy yes Ryans dipped a lil towards the end and he was a near emergency section but I escaped that and he was born perfect !! And both my inductions they saw as a medical reason .... if I have another baby I will be opting for an induction also !!!
Onto part 2 now !!

Well watched both and the second one ... well how intense was that !!!! (those who watched will know what I mean)
I am not against home or hospital births ... at the end of the day it all comes down to what the mother wants ... for me that is a hospital birth where I know I am already in the right place if anything was to go wrong and also for me opting for induction each time for medical and reassurance purpose's

it was really interesting, and quite intense! I'm still not sure what i'll want when I get to that point, but I can see some of their points, as well as I can see that they are very one-sided in their thinking. either way I think it's a good documentary, something many people could find different points of argument in, as there are different sides to every situation. It's given me a lot to think about.

I aqgree there ... I can see views on both points and I agree with what one bloke said .. yeah have a home birth .. but only if you live within 15 minutes of a hospital ... for me I agree with that .. I know a home birth can be great and go as planned and smoothly ... but also any birth can take a turn for the worst ever so quickly wether at home or not ... thats why and after our first experience I just feel so much safer birthing at hospital.
Its a very interesting documentary tho and does give one alot to think about !!

If you liked this, you should check out "The Business of Being Born". I really enjoyed it and it is a little less...sensationalist than this is coming across as.

I will watch it. I am not in favor of a homebirth simply because I was in so much pain with Gemma. I want to do NCB this time but if it's overcoming my joy in getting to meet my baby then I want options available. Also Gemma was almost 9 pounds and if this one happens to be bigger and gets stuck or something then I want help available. It's nice to think about the options though!

I love when they talk about the Ugandan woman who just squatted down and gave birth and then immediately went back to working in the garden. The guy says "How can I go back to medicine when now I know birth is so quick and pain free?" Yeah, screw you buddy! I'm guessing this woman had given birth many times and probably had small babies due to lack of proper prenatal care, bad water, poor diet, etc. Excuse me but delivering a 9 pound baby and tearing from vajayjay to butthole is NOT painfree!

wow all i can say is do not watch this if you are already emotional!!!
I had a lot of emotions watching this. i felt like if i can get thru this time in my life then i can try and do whats best for any future babies i might have. i felt a lot of worry about what i am thinking of doing to myself now (inducing miscarriage) and it brought up a lot of things i hadnt thought of like how these medications/procedures can harm my uterus and me and affect future pregnancies.
i agree that this was a bit more one sided than 'the business of being born'. also i did not like how they kept alluding to the fact that someone was going to die. i mean seriously ppl, i bet a lot of hormonal, emotional pregnant ladies are watching that show and you just DONT do that to them. its mean.
thanks for sharing tho vi, i am glad i watched it.

i'm too scared to watch and i wouldn't trust any of the info in the movie if they arn't telling the benefits of a hospital birth. both of my kids were born in a hospital healthy and we all left happy. my second was an induction, and was a better delivery than with my 1st who was not induced.
