I am wondering if anyone in here was given meds to help them miscarry?
Or knows what the options are as far as helping to miscarry?
My mom keeps telling me that i'll be in hospital for a D&C, and that just freaks me out to no end. I don't want someone reefing open my cervix and scraping around in there. I feel like there would be a lot of risk of damage to the cervix/uterus with a D&C. But then again I dont know what the other options are and what the risks associated with those are.
I'm usually a 'go natural' type of girl, but i just so want this over and done with.

I don't know the name of it but my friend had a miscarriage 5 years ago and she took a pill (or 2?). So I know something's out there like that. I'm sure someone can help you better than I can ((HUGS))

(((((Hugs))))) I cant even imagine how nerve wrecking, frustrating, and emotionally painful this is. but here's a link I found for safe nonsurgical ways.
Misoprostol

I'm so sorry you have to go through this.
For my miscarriage, I miscarried naturally....but it was incomplete. So it dragged on for about 3 weeks...waiting for it to "finish", still getting positive PG tests. Ugh it was so horrible - I wouldn't wish it on ANYONE. But I was terrified of having a D&C, I did not want something so invasive at all. I was supposed to be a little over 8 weeks along, but the ultrasound just showed a gestational sac and the beginnings of a fetal pole, so we figured the baby had stopped developing at 4/5 weeks. So it shouldn't have been to hard to "pass" everything.
Finally, I broke down to my midwife and just wanted it OVER. It was a Friday, so she gave me some misprostol/cytotec to use. I had to insert it as far close to my cervix as I possibly could. She also gave me tylenol 3 to take. I'm so glad I had that, because I waited and waited for the miso to work and it took several hours (normally they say it can start working within an hour).
Miso causes your uterus to contract, which can help expel anything that is remaining in your uterus. The contractions are like mild labor contractions and they are painful. I actually had them with the natural part of my miscarriage - but it was so "late" in the miscarriage process that they weren't able to finish anything for me. It only took one dose (2 pills) for everything to pick back up - cramping, bleeding, etc. I wont get into the details (unless you want me to), but I definitely knew that my miscarriage was mostly complete after that weekend.
I had an ultrasound done on the Monday after to check and make sure there was no tissue retained still...and there wasn't. The fear of having a D&C is something I am very familiar with. If you have any more questions or want any more details - please please please don't hesitate to just ask or PM me, okay?

I am absolutely not trying to push a D&C on you, and I know that my experience could be completely different then another woman's, but I just want to let you know that my D&C went smoothly. I was so terrified going into it, because it was my first surgery, and they have to make you aware of the possible consequences. I had been in the hospital for 24 hours, and I chose a D&C because I needed the physical part of the miscarriage to be over so that I could go home and deal with the emotions. I had no trust left in my body - I had gone three weeks thinking everything was fine, after my baby's heart stopped beating - and I wanted it over. If it were to happen to me again, I don't know if I would choose another D&C, or if I would choose to miscarry naturally. It's such a personal decision, and there are so many things that can affect it.
The actual procedure was about 30 minutes - I remember taking deep breaths, and then the next thing I knew, I was waking up in recovery. I'm sorry that your mom is scaring you. I hope that you are able to miscarry naturally. But if you ever need to talk to someone who went through a D&C, please feel free to email me.

argh....so much to think about. i hate hospitals, but the quickness & mostly pain free aspects of the d&c sound good. but i also like the idea of going thru this in my own home, with my dh there to take care of me.

It is totally a personal decision.....it is one of those things where there isn't really a right or wrong answer at all. It's all about what is better for you personally.
I knew we would want to TTC right away as well...and naturally, we just had to wait 1 cycle vs waiting 3 cycles after a D&C. That was on the recommendation of my midwife, 3 cycles after the D&C gives your body time to heal - 1 cycle after naturally m/c to make sure everything was working again. Your doctor could have different recommendations as well - I know of ladies from the TTCAL board who got PG again right away after a D&C.

I had a D&C with the baby I lost before Gem. I bled like AF for awhile and had some pretty bad cramps for like 24 hours afterwards but nothing major complication-wise. I wanted the pills but they told me there was some reason I couldn't have them. I don't remember what it was. Don't be scared if you have to do the D&C. I didn't even get put under, just painkillers orally and it wasn't bad. I hope your doc is helpful! (((HUGS)))

Miso is short for misoprostol, which is the drug they would most likely have you use (also called cytotec).
