DH and I need a vacation, badly. I want to go to the Caribbean! Any ideas? Any opinions on when would be a good time to go and ditch Mr Jack with my mom? Do you think he will do ok without mommy once he is one year old?
I want to surprise DH with this trip!

I just want to say that the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas was pretty much the most awesome place I have ever seen. And the week cruise to get there wasn't bad either. Definitely one of the highlights of my life (since before then I hadn't left the Midwest ) I hope you guys get to go! I'd LOVE a vacation but I don't think I could bring myself to leave Conner

I'd say when you go depends on how long you think you can be (and want to be) gone from Jack. Also depends on your BFing relationship at the time.
What kind of things do you like to do on vacation?
I'd love to go on vacation but I think what we'll probably do when the time comes (hopefully this spring? yikes I need to plan something now) is go on vacation along with my inlaws, like stay in the same hotel. Then any nights or days that we wanted to do things as a couple, sans baby, we could just leave Matthew with them and they'd be happy to babysit. That's the only way I'd be comfortable doing it at this point, I dont think I could be away from him overnight.

I didnt really care for the Bahamas in general. BUT you can walk around with an open alcohol container and not get in trouble.
We really enjoyed Key West, but you need like a week there to get everything in that you want to do. Also, check the calendar of events before you go because they are known to have different 'festivities' down there (Pride Fest being one of them). We went mid-May last year on a road trip down there (we are in Georgia) and we had a blast! If you are friends with me on FB you can look at our pics on there.

We just want to lie on the beach, drink and have sex Maybe ride a banana in the ocean, lmao. You know, those banana rafts.
I think I would want to be gone 4-5 days total. I was thinking of a vacation like that too Shannon, where others come to watch Jack. But I get too involved if I am around. Plus, I don't want to worry about him while I am drinking, laying in the sun, or getting freaky. Ahhh the things you miss when you are breastfeeding or pregnant or have a baby that wakes up all night. I do not plan to breastfeed much past one year, so maybe I should wait until then to go? July seems so far away
Thanks for the ideas of where to go. I am going to look into them

I don't know where you live, but Maui is my favorite tropical getaway. We took Cohen when he was 4 months old and are going back this july w/ both boys. If you're just looking for a good time w/ your DH, I'd recommend a long weekend at the outerbanks in NC

Then I wouldn't go to Key West. There aren't many beaches, actually I think there are two (and one you have to take a $150-300 ferry to). Key West is more a walk around and get drunk at all the bars kind of town.

Well, other than Mexico (multiple places, non which I think are super special), I've been to Aruba.
We went to Aruba for our honeymoon and had a great time. It was really affordable too. We saved a ton of money by not buying an all inclusive package. We went into town and bought some breakfast/lunch/snack type food to keep in our room and then went out and about for dinner.
It hardly rains, has a good breeze, and the local people aren't creepy and don't try to sell you stuff.
Wish I had more places to recommend. I need to get out an do some traveling myself!

Aruba!!!!!....we always take our kids with us....but I think Jack would be fine at this age.....the more you leave him the better he'll be...Harrison wouldn't even speak with us on the phone last year when we went to Las Vegas.....he was having too much fun with mimi and papa...granted he was 2 but he was a pro by then at staying with them!
