For those moms that are currently co sleeping and nursing at night I have a few questions
How do you lay and how does baby lay?
I lay on my side, as does Dustin. I put my hand up under the pillow. The thing is is that my shoulder and arm get SUPER sore. My upper back hurts as well. He just keeps latched on and sleeps... so it's hard lol. He's not a good sleeper so this is like the only way we sleep from 1 to 7 lol.
Any tips for co sleeping and nursing? Pillow positioning or something?

I've never been able to nurse lying down, I'm too large chested I'd suffocate them. I just sit up in bed and nurse(usually falling asleep in the process for a little ) and then laying her down after she falls back to sleep and I snuggle right up to her(did the same with Seamus). It doesn't help that I have to use a nipple shield and hold it on too so that make laying down to nurse that much harder. I'm envious of those that can do it

I should just sit and nurse... that way I can put him back in his bed once he's asleep.. thus us both getting a better sleep.. but I'm lazy and just plop him on and go right to sleep!

Osric sleeps in his crib at night but usually when we get up for his 7am feeding I will bring him back to bed with me for some cuddle time and we will both usually fall asleep nursing.
I have found it easiest and most comfortable to lie on my side and nurse him with the 'top' boob. That way I can lean my body at an angle toward him to put the boob at the right height (don't have height control with the bottom boob). With my arm that I am laying on, I rest my hand up under his head, and with the top arm I usually drape it over him (to make sure he doesn't tumble away). Make sense?

When amara comes to our bed I usually sleep on my side but it really depends on her position. Usually she finds a nice spot in between us and we just continue to sleep anyhow.
As for breastfeeding, I usually put my arm in the air and she'll lie on the pillow and feed. But Amara will prop up on an elbow to get a boob if she has to. The child amazes me with her impatience.

I only bring Lyla to bed with me in the early mornings- I do what you do- Lay on my side w/ my arm under the pillow. When my side starts to get sore I turn over and switch her sides......I'm not the most comfortable but it helps when I'm really tired and she won't sleep or is still hungry!

Prop a big pillow behind your back while you're laying on your side! I don't nurse in bed often, but when I did my back would just ache, so I started doing this and it really helped because I could relax my back against the pillow and still not fall over.

If he isn't nursing I usually turn over now that he is older. If he is nursing I do what Kati does. I like to lay on my side and let him nurse off my top boob so that I can lay more on my body. It's how I've always liked to sleep. My bottom arm is under my pillow.

Ooooh I never thought of trying the top boob! I'll try that tonight and see if I can get a more comfy position out of it.
I felt so silly posting this, but I'm glad I did

He FOUND my top boob. I wouldn't have thought of it but one night he just reached up and grabbed it! LOL
Something else I realized----sleeping with a shirt on made him not night nurse as much...I think he was just leaning over for snacks all night before.....and secondarily mean his diapers isn't as wet.

Well the top boob thing helped alot. I sleep more like I would if he wasn't nursing.
Thanks so much for the tips ladies!
I might have to try wearing a shirt, see if that cuts down on the night snacking!

Some of you don't wear a top to sleep in while nursing? I always have one on or a nightgown w/ the buttons undone. It doesn't stop Oliver from comfort nursing all night. He knows how to move clothing out of his way to get to his nay nays. He does it in his sleep and if he has trouble he stars crying, grabbing, and digging for them. If I turn my back to him he flings hisself on me.

I sit up in bed and nurse if he's in bed with me. Up until he was 4-5 months old I didn't know how anyone could side laying nurse b/c he wouldn't stay latched on. After that he now moves around in bed so much that I wake up at every little move. And now that he is crawling there is no way b/c mommy's bed = playtime for him. When I was side laying nursing, I've never found top boob comfy for me, I dunno why. A pillow behind my back helps. I curl my bottom arm over his head and kind of around him.
