With both my brother and I, my mom had a fairly quick labor that she didn't really even feel until she was 5 or 6 cm. With one of us she just went into a regular appointment and the doc looked at her crosseyed and asked her if she could feel anything because she was 5 cm dialated and in labor... she couldn't.

So, I'm wondering if I can expect the same thing? Do labor patterns run in the family? Do you know how your labor/delivery went compared to your mom's?

I sure hope I can make it half way through labor without knowing it!

I really hope for your sake that you get the same type of labor! That would be awesome.

My mom's first labor with my older brother was complicated because he turned transverse and it ended in a c-section. My first labor with my son was complicated because his shoulder got caught and it ended in a c-section. Coincidence? I don't know...

My mom's and my labors were nothing alike. Then again, she and I are nothing alike so maybe that plays a factor, too.

Not really alike for me and my mom. All 3 of hers started with bloody show, mine started with my water breaking. As far as length...maybe about the same length of labor time with her first and my first? I think.

I was in a world of hurt when I got to the hospital and they told me I was 5-6 cm dilated...BUT I had Matthew less than 2 hours later. So try not to worry if you're at 5 and really feeling those contractions. But for your sake I hope your labor ends up like yours mom's!

Nothing alike!!! Not one bit!

My mom had induced deliveries on all her births due to varying issues. For me, it was leaking amniotic fluid. Her labors were right around 8 hrs from start to finish. No one else on my moms side had children.

Of all the women on my dads side, the longest delivery for the 1st child was 6 hrs.

I delivered spontaneously at 35 weeks. I had about 14 hrs of early labor, and then 29 hrs of hard active labor. Sucked... I was really expecting a fast delivery. The doctors were as well, because preemies usually are small and are delivered fast.

My mother's birthing experience when she had me (her third baby) is crazy how similar it went to my experience. We both had sky high blood pressure (she had PIH - I had pre-e) and had to labor on our sides, we both did it without any pain medication, and we both hemorrhaged afterward and our uterus wouldn't contract back down properly, etc.

I wish I had my mother's labor! I wish I had her pregnancys, no morning sickness at all, no stretch marks no problems at all and I ended up getting all them. Her labor with me was so fast, she got up at almost 5am from contractions and I was born just after 6am! I was coming out before the doctor even had time to get there.

With my son I was in labor for 15hours, though pushing went fast and the labor was perfect, just long. The only thing we had in common was I was born over due and so was my Son, we even expect this baby to come very late as well.

My mom with all 4 of us had no longer than 13 hour labors (I was her 4th and the longest at 13 hours). She had an epi all 4 times but the 2nd one worked on and off and with me it only numbed one side. She had an episiotomy with the first 3 and just tore slightly with me.

My labors have never gone over 8.5 hours. My epi with Taylor worked like a dream and I had an episiotomy. With Rylie I got an epi but it didn't work for even 1 minute and I only tore slightly.

My mom worked the day she went into labor (about a week earlier than her DD). she got off at 5, had me at 1030pm. All natural. No stretchmarks. Active. PPD.

I dont have any stretchmarks, I'm pretty active. Im hoping to be in labor just as long as she was, no longer, and go natural. She can keep the PPD though.

I wonder if those who were similar were just coincidences? Laboring like my mom would be awesome. I've got my fingers crossed. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't all a breeze for her -- she was in pain, just not the first half.

Angela -- Yes I have done some shopping! Mainly clothes and CDs. I know, I need to post pics but I have been so lazy. Heck, I need to update my belly pics, it has been almost a month!

Ours were very similar. My labor, from first pain until baby in my arms was 8 hrs. So was my mother's with her first. Very much normal, no complications.

Her second was 3 hrs

My older brother came too quickly and he was born after a very short labor.

I was a long labor, my mom had an epi, and I was born the next day.

My labor was much like my mom's. But my pregnancy was not. I got tons of stretch marks and I never got a large as her.

My mom was in labor for 36+ hours and finally had me. I was average size (7lbs, 7oz).

I went in to be induced and found out I was 5CM dilated and in labor. Never felt a thing. I think I would have had a great labor but they wanted to speed things up and I let them. I was given pitocin (and it actually stopped my contractions) and then they broke my water and I went from 5-10 in less than 2 hours. It hurt so bad! But I pushed like 5 times and Gem was here! And she was about 2 lbs heavier than predicted at 8lbs. 10oz. I had an episiotomy but I really doubt it was necessary. I think the doctor was just in a rush and I wasn't on his schedule.

My mom's labor was less than 1/2 the time mine was. She did it w/o any pain meds and pushed me out fast. Mine was over 30 hrs, 3 hrs pushing, and the result was an c/s. I had an epi and pit.

Oh and I also wanted to mention all 3 of my moms babies went past her due date, I know I was a week late, my little brother was at least 2 weeks past due.

I was totally expecting to go late and was freaking out b/c my doctor would want to induce. I didn't get everything done that I wanted to before he was born b/c I was so sure I'd go late. But he was a week and a couple days before my due date.

I never asked my mom how her labour was with me but I know that I'm the only one who willingly attempted an all natural labour. My second sister had her son naturally but that was not by choice. She was already too far into labour to get the pain meds and even though she supported my decision she thought I was a little insane to want a medication-free birth. Well, mine didn't work out as planned but that's just how things go sometimes.

I do hope that you have a labour similar to your moms.

Completely different here. She went into labor at 3:30 am...I was born at 9:30, no complications, no problems at all.

With Conner I went into labor at 10:30 pm on Thursday and he was born by c-section at 5:08 pm Friday after having too big of a head and his shoulder being too far up. (Three cheers for pushing for 3 hours for nothing lol)

My labors and my Mom's have actually been very similar, down to the exact day of gestation.

With our firsts we both went at 37 weeks 2 days. My water broke first and my Mom's not til she was in labor but both went pretty quickly. From water breaking til Liam was in my arms was 6 hours 49 minutes. My Mom's was about 7 hours. The only difference is mine was a natural pain med free birth and my Mom was forced to stop pushing so she could be given a saddle block (can anyone say pointless???).

With our seconds (which was me) we both went into labor on our due dates. Completely normal, natural, pain med free births for both of us. Hers was about 7 1/2 hours, mine was 6 hours 20 minutes. The only difference is afterwards I hemorrhaged and that was never an issue with her.

Her third came at 36 weeks and a couple days. She started dilating at 28/29 weeks just like me this time. They tried to stop her labor because she was a little early so it lasted a little longer than it originally would have (I think she said 6 1/2 hours total). Also my brother was in a weird position--posterior and facial presentation--and they told her because this was her third they'd let her go vaginally but if he was her first or second she'd be definitely going for a c-section. Which is exactly what I was told last week if Lila is breech when I go into labor. She had another natural, pain med free birth which is what I want again too. We'll see how closely this one matches up with hers. If I go at the same gestation again I'm looking at next week for a baby!
