Do you have a double or single breast pump? I am thinking I will only need a single since I won't be pumping a lot.. I only plan to pump for DH to feed or when we need to leave the baby with someone..

Does anyone have the avent pump? I am looking at that one since I want to use the avent bottles.. I know I hear good things about the medela but the avent is a little cheaper!

Thanks for any input!! I have some time on my hands so I am starting to make me a wishlist at BRU

To start I got the Evenflo comfort select single electric. It was like $40 and its good. I dont have one single complaint about it. But then once she came I went and go the Evenflo mannual cuz I thought maybe I would respond better to a mannual, I didnt. I just dont have pump "friendly" boobs. I can pump but at one time dependin on when her last feeding was I generally will only get an oz at a time. In the morning Im engorged on one side and I will only ever get 3oz. Its the MOST I ever get! But when Kennedi started going to her dads WIC gave me the Medela Pump In Style, and OMG I LOVE it. Its my best friend!! But yea for what your going to need it for I would go with a cheap one, but I think I would get a double not a single. I know the Evenflo double electric is like $60.

If you can manage it, get a Medela double electric. It will really make your life so much easier!!! I just got a Pump In Style Advanced to replace my older Medela, and it is amazing. I put a wanted ad on Craigslist and got a barely used one for $85 (over $200 new). I had my old kit, but buying the new parts (breastshields, valves, membranes and collection bottles) would run you about $30.

So yea, personally I would rather have a used double electric Medela over any other brand. But then again, I pump a lot.

I have the Medela Pump In style- it's a double electric but I pump a lot and go back to work in a week and a half so I needed a good pump. For you- if you aren't going to be pumping much then I wouldn't go w/ an expensive pump- It wouldn't be worth the money.

I used the Ameda Double Electric pump and it was great. I didn't want to invest so much in the Medela since I was unsure how it would go so I got the Ameda instead. It had pretty good reviews too. I was not disappointed. It served me well.

I have a double - pum in style but only because I was working. A single should be fine. You could always wait to see what would work best for your needs after baby is born.

I have the medela single deluxe breastpump. It's designed for moms who nurse most of the time & just need a pump for occasional use. I spent a long time stressing over what to get. You just always hear how fantastic t he PIS is so that's the one I wanted, but I didn't want to spend the money. I thought I'd get one on CL but I know the motors don't last forever so I was still a little weary of that too... plus I was paranoid about buying anythign on CL while pg b/c I didn't want someone to murder me and steal my baby. ANYWAY... I said screw it and bought this pump new and it's been just what I needed. I use it occasionally just to build a stash in the freezer so if I need to go somewhere without baby or if something happens to me or something its there... but since I'm a SAHM I don't need to pump daily like a working mom would. So since I'm assuming you'll be in a similar scenario - this would probably work well for you too.

my SIL got the Medela Freestyle and its great, she gets like 6 oz at every pump. But she is exclusively pumping, so she pumps as much as baby eats.

i kno my SIL tried a crappy pump from walmart, and we just returned it right away cause it didnt work well at all.

I used my sister VERY old Medela double Electric. Unfortunetly since it was so old ( 11 years ) It didn't fully work to it's capability. I never used to double cause I barley made enough milk to pump. I was lucky to get 1 Oz and I would pump for 30-45 mins! Im thinking I may buy a cheaper single pump and try and it give it another go this time. BUT Im pumping only.

I have the Medela In Style double electric one. But I mainly purchased it b/c I will need to speed pump at work. But now that I'm home for a few weeks and not pumping seriously yet...I usually just do one breast at a time. I have a little freezer stash of about 10 2 oz bags so far. I think if you are only pumping occasionally, a sinlge pump would be fine. But get a GOOD single pump. Cheap pumps are not worth it. They will either not pump well or make your nipples really sore.

Although wouldnt be funny had it actually happened (but since it never happened) I just cracked up laughing.

Im going to invest in the Medela double Electric PIS. I'll be pumping a lot once I go to work and when others watch her so I figure I might as well get the best one out there.

Your not going to try and nurse the new baby? Pumping only? I know you had some set backs with Cambria. Is that why? Sorry if I'm being nosey!

I have a double electric Medela Lactina. It's hospital grade and I got it for free from my SIL. It worked great but since I EBF I only used it when I was engorged in the beginning. If I had to buy one I would make it a single one

May I suggest you wait until after the baby is here before you buy a pump? I REALLY wish I would've done this! I bought the Medela manual pump because, like you, I planned on EBFing and only pumping a few extra bottles - and that pump is great for that purpose. Buuuut, since Xander and I have had some setbacks due to him being a lazy nurser, I had to go out and buy the Medela PIS anyway because I needed more milk in bottles for him. So I basically wasted $40 on the manual pump. Unless you have a gazillion people going to your shower, I highly doubt anyone would actually buy the pump off your registry. I put mine on there and a number of people told me they thought it was weird that I put it on there, because it isn't a fun baby gift.

I would just stay away from manual pumps. I have one I had to get in an emergency and lets just say it was a big waste of money and dh had to "help me out" instead.

I had a Medela PIS after I had Liam and loved it! I used it until the diaphragm ripped on me and now I have no suction. I'm either going to buy another one new in a couple months or see what I can get off craigslist. I guess I could get away with a single but my boobs hate the pump and I like to have the option of the double if I need it.
