I had my 35/36 week midwife appointment yesterday and you guessed it, she flipped back to breech again. I knew she did it Tuesday though I was just hoping I was wrong. Now we're in major proactive mode. I've got a chiropractic appointment for tomorrow and a message in to perinatal testing at the hospital to schedule an u/s and peri consult. If she's breech at the u/s they'll schedule an external version for 38 weeks. I'm so upset at this whole thing. I've cried off and on all day yesterday. I can't even talk about it without crying still. It's not a matter of her being a stubborn baby and being breech the whole time. She has no problem turning herself, obviously. It's a matter of her staying head down. Apparently I have a lot of fluid and she's not a big baby so she's just got tons of room in there still. So even if I go through all this crap (spending money we don't have to spend) she may still flip back to breech by the time I actually go into labor and then it's c-section time. The midwife I saw yesterday told me that there are zero doctors in the area that will deliver a breech vaginally and to even have the chance I'd have to arrive at the hospital with delivery being imminent.
I don't think anyone gets how serious this is for me. If I hear "a healthy Mom and healthy baby is all that matters" I'm going to rip someones head off! Yes that is what is most important but that's not all that matters! I don't want my baby pumped with drugs, I don't want a needle in my spine, I don't want major surgery in 3 1/2 weeks, and I certainly don't want to be separated from my baby for any reason at any time! Not to mention the awful financial ramifications this will have (I have insurance but it only covers 80% of the birth--we've already paid off the birth center so hospital bills on top of that would ruin us).
I'm just a mess and don't even want to get out of bed today. I guess it's just one more way for life to kick us while we're down.

Awwww Jenn I'm so sorry... Will they even let you go into labor and try to turn the baby themselves!? Sorry if that sounds stupid, but I am pretty sure I've heard of the doctor trying to turn the baby while someone was in labor..

Thats what a version is, isnt it? And she is going to try that I think she said.
Im so sorry Jenn! I cant imagine how it feels to go all this time wanting your birth to go a certain way and then have it all change before you even go into labor and its something that is pretty much out of your hands. So sorry!!!

That stinks. I really hope she flips before you go into labor. I can imagine how stressful and upsetting this is on you. Maybe she will flip again before you next doc appt? I'll be sending thoughts your way for her to flip and stay head down by the time you go into labor.

Sorry Jenn....my friend is due the beg. of April and her baby girl is being stubborn and is breech too....these darn girls. She doesn't want a c-section either. I'm praying for her and I'll add you to my list.

Hugs Jenn!!!!!
I too was where you were at with Nolan being breech. Everyone kept telling me "ohhh he will turn, he has plenty of time/room/he can turn even in labor". But it doesn't matter what COULD happen when you have your idea of HOW you want to deliver and that does NOT include drugs or interventions of any kind, let alone the biggest intervention of a c-section.
Several ladies in our DDC have tried the chiropractor to get their babies to turn and it was successful. Another thing to look into is acupuncture - my midwife told me that actually works more often then the Webster's technique does. And then of course all the usual spinning babies, etc.
What a little trickster of a baby you have in there. Fluid + being smaller is GREAT though - just not if she can flip to her hearts content. I'll keep my fingers crossed that she decides to stay put before it is the last minute!!!

That was one of my big fears during pregnancy.
If it was *ME* I would just stay home and labor and go in only with birth was within minutes. Do you know WHAT kind of breech she is in? (all butt down with feet by head, butt down one knee bent so one foot is down, two feet down). Two feet down or butt down with feet up are pretty safe breech deliveries....the one foot up and one down is trickier. They CAN AND DO flip DURING labor, especially if your bag of water is intact. So IF they want to do a c/s I would make them hold off till the LAST possible second (like the feeling of pushing) to assess baby then.
My heart just breaks for you, I totally understand where your coming from on being upset about this.

Oh sweetie Im so sorry. I can completely 200% understand what you mean by not wanting to hear "healthy mom and healty beeb is all that matters" It doesnt mean that you dont want that, cuz we all know you do. But you want all 3. Healthy mom, beeb, and vaginally deliver! I hope and PRAY that she decides to turn on her own and STAY that way!! Keep us updated sweetie, and cry get it all out. Sometimes its what we all need the most!

Thanks everyone for your support. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I have my u/s and peri consult scheduled for Tuesday morning so I guess we go from there. I've added acupuncture to my list as well Heather, thank you for that! I have decided though I will not let them schedule a c-section at any time because she obviously has plenty of room to still turn at any point.
Would it be terribly horrible though if I need the version at 38 weeks to request my midwife to strip my membranes to see if we can get labor going while I know she's head down? If my body's not ready for labor it won't work anyhow but could it hurt to try? Obviously it's not the route I'd prefer but it's better than a c-section.
I am doing the spinning babies exercises as well so hopefully this will all be a moot point and the little stinker will stay head down for me!
I would love to stay home and labor as long as possible but I'm an hour and a half from the birth center (hospital is across the street from it) and I don't want to risk waiting too long since I won't know what traffic will be like. I don't have long labors to begin with and when they're ready to come out there is no stopping them. I believe she's frank breech every time she turns on me and while I would love to birth vaginally I'm apprehensive about it since none of the docs are trained in breech deliveries.

Wow Jenn, I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. I really hope she turns back to head down asap.
Dustin did some flip flopping too but I think a week or so before he came he finally flipped into position... but even during labor he was really wiggling around and not doing what he was supposed to be doing!
Baby's have a mind of their own way to young I think!! lol
Come on and turn girly!!!

Jenn when I talked to my midwife about the "what ifs" before Nolan turned, one of my huge questions was...."Okay, so the version works, what do we do now??" and her response was "Well it is up to you, but here are the options".
I could either - Go home, hope that he doesn't turn back and that when I go into labor he is still head down.
OR - I could be induced right then, while he is head down. Now I didn't ask if that meant she would do what you said, strip my membranes and then let me go home to a bunch, bounce on my birthing ball, etc. to get things going or I would have a medical induction. But personally, I would be doing EVERYTHING I possibly could from that moment on to get things moving while I knew baby was in the right position!
I would definitely ask what all of your options are, even the ones that you KNOW you wouldn't be interested in under normal circumstances. Question question question. And hopefully all this stressing and worrying and freaking out is all for nothing!
There was a girl in the Feb DDC who just delivered a frank breech baby vaginally - her FIRST - and her baby was smaller like Lila. After having 2 natural vaginal births, there has to be SOMEONE out there that would be willing to attempt a frank breech birth with you, you would think! It's amazing to me that no one is trained in that anymore because frank breech >>>>>> footling breech (which is what Nolan kept turning to).

I would do what Angela said and labor at home for as long as possible.
but if they can do a version and induce you right then and there, I'd go for that one too!
Id try Acu and a Chiro 1st just to see how they work out and then from there do the version and if that doesnt work, labor at home for as long as possible. It is not uncommon to deliver a breached baby. I even seen it a few times on a few of the baby shows and on youtube (homebirth)

Im so sorry Is it because the state wont let you? I guess Im lucky to live in a state that offers breech births, even at home. I REALLLLLY hope she flips and engages her head ASAP so she cant move!!!!!

Thank you so much Heather!!! It's hard not to freak out about isn't it? I think if she's still breech at my u/s on Tuesday I'll do acupuncture before the version. I don't want a medical induction but I'll take having my membranes stripped and then going home and doing everything I can to get things really moving.

I'm really sorry Jenn!! I totally get why this is upsetting to you! This is one of my biggest fears as well. Hopefully she'll decide to move or the other techniques will help. HUGS!!

it breaks my heart that you have to worry about all the financial side of things...gawd it pisses me off to no end that the richest country in the world can't even pay for women to give birth...give birth to the people that are the future of the country. argh. i realize that socialized health care is just that, kinda socialist, but come on, every mother deserves a birth that is not plagued by the question of how she's going to pay for it. rant over.
