So with hubby wanting to go back to school, hell have to cut his hours back at work. With that in mind, the barn work will be out of the question with Isabelle coming. So I was like dude, Ill just work from home, selling partylite. Is there anyone here whos done something like this, or is doing it currently who can give me some pointers? I have a few friends that sell it (one of them successfully) that I can work under. I just need to bring in about $400 a month and Ill be golden (to cover my horse and some cost of living) Also, with Oregon taking taxes out of our paychecks, how would I claim this at the end of the year? would I end up owing the IRS $$ each year?

Good luck, I know sometimes selling products like that will end up costing you more money at first and it takes awhile to build up customers.. I've seen a few friends try to sell Mary Kay and Avon and have no luck so I just wanted to put that out there!!!!

For taxes (I am not a tax expert) you would have to claim your earnings on a 1099! That is what I had to do when I did ChaCha..

Also look into ChaCha (I'm not sure if they are hiring).. I did that for about 6 months and made a little money..

I don't know about selling it, but you will definitely owe taxes on whatever you make. As far as owing overall between you and your DH, it depends on how many credits you get and how far in the positive or negative he is tax-wise, and how much you make. But you can make a lot of deductions with a business like that.

Angela- Partylite is a candle company.

I am a consultant- haven't sold in years. I didn't make much selling it but I LOVE the product! You will have to report all of your earnings at the end of the year and will have to pay because it's not being taken out intitally. Although- I'm not sure of the tax laws in OR- you may not owe if you don't make that much. I never did sell much because i just couldn't keep asking people to spend money and the product isn't cheap. Good luck though- it's great product!

My other friend came up and told me about scentsy, its alot cheaper and its kid friendly (its a flamless wax that melts but is semi cool to the touch, it wont burn a child fingers, will just make a mess LOL) She said after doing both partylite and scentsy she's made more with scentsy since its kid friendly, more mom's and grandma's are willing to purchase it. Mary kay sucks, Ive tried that. Its only for like the highstrung go get em ppl, ya know? I am NOT that way but dont mind dropping my business card everywhere.

would you guys be interested in having a virtual show if I were to start this up?

I've bought some candle - party light stuff in the past - nice stuff! I have no insight for selling stuff never done it..my sister sells avon - she doesn't even net over $400 (I know because I helped her with her Sch. C (Aimee is right about the 1099 - the company will send that too you) however, you get to deduct a bunch of expenses you spend on doing it... I would think you'd have to put in a good amount of time to really make money.

Also, I have a feeling that the parties that people will have will often be on weekends and at night and that will take you away from your family at those times and that might get tough.
Just some thoughts - but if you do it Beth I know you'll rock at it!
