I hear you. But I also have experienced first hand just how crappy daycare germs are. Gemma was just like JJ with ear infections constantly (always double, always recurring). They even diagnosed her with asthma which I now think was just recurring coughs, congestion and infections. I took Gemma out of daycare early last month and we haven't had a single illness/ear infection/snotty nose since. I understand that you HAVE to work and your ped should NOT use that as an excuse for not looking for a better treatment for your little man. I hope he gets well soon and you get some answers. Oh, and I would probably do the tubes. I will say that, looking back, 5 years of treating constant infections and missing work and filling scripts was probably more trying and harder on me and my wallet than just biting the bullet. Not to mention now I am not sure about Gem's hearing. We are always yelling at her to turn down the TV and she says she can't hear it. Sorry you have to deal with this!

I'm really scared for you with these ear infections because I know what could happen. I'm not sure if there's anyone around where you could get a second opinion and perhaps better treatment but continue to monitor the situation very closely. I really do not like that his ear drum ruptured and I don't like that it seems to be getting overlooked rather than getting a thorough inspection. I understand the frustration about getting told that it's perhaps due to him being in day care. While there is some truth to it being associated with being around other children who will be sick, etc, I think that they're overlooking the fact that he's been suffering with it way before he went to daycare. I really, really hope you find a treatment plan soon.

See that's the thing no one seems to be looking at is that he has been having this issue 2 months PRIOR to entering day care. He was NOT around children before then. He was at home with me or being watched by a friend. Obviously he caught a resistant strain of something from somewhere.
Problem with doing tubes now is there is so much research that says not to do it this young. Makes me wonder if he just wants a buck.
Not to mention, I saw this guy today myself for my sinus infection and he spent more time cleaning the wax out of my ears then addressing my sinus problem.
The wax by the way was friggin NASTY.
Looks like I am gonna have to get a FOURTH opinion.
(Ped wants to keep an eye on it, Chiro says they can treat it and he won't need tubes or antibiotics, and ENT wants to do tubes)
All i wanna do is take my baby to swimming class (cause he LOVES water) and I can't even do that cause I am afraid of getting water in his ears

awe i hope jj gets well soon.
they make these moldable earplugs that work really well, and then you put a swim headband on the kid over top of the moldable earplugs. my sis can't get water in her ears and that's what she uses. so you could take him swimming.

Oh gosh, I'm sorry! Andy, myself, and out girls have ALL managed to get H1N1 and a terrible sinus infection with a fever this year and they don't go to daycare. It could be from anywhere... my DH at work, going grocery shopping and touching the carts, ect. Anytime you're in a public place you're susceptible to germs so sure, daycare might be part of the culprit but it won't be any different once he's in school KWIM? You're doing just fine with the little guy and you're a very strong mama. I agree, I wouldn't tell them he's in daycare anymore! ((HUGS))

I just wanted to add... I'm sorry you can't get a doc to listen to you. I know that's gotta be incredibly frustrating, not to mention insulting. Docs can be so hard headed. Poor little J.J.

Oh wow! How frustrating and angry I'd be so I definitely understand. Esp b/c they dont listen to the fact that he's had it since he was 2 weeks and didnt enter daycare until 8 weeks later. I agree on getting a 2nd opinion and not letting them know that he's in daycare to see what they say.

I'm so sorry the doctors are giving you such a hard time. Daycare or not he has something wrong with him and blame isn't going to fix it! These doctors need to do something about it and not give personal commentary and speculation on why he may have these recurrent ear infections. His poor little ears, I feel so bad for him! I had chronic ear infections when I was little and so did my younger brother--his to the extent that it did affect his speech. And none of us were in daycare. I really hope you find someone to help JJ and that his pain will stop.

my kids are daycare kids....and Harrison ended up with tubes - it was like the world changed overnight - he hardly ever got sick after that (with the ENT stuff). I wouldn't rule out tubes....it really all went smoothly and worked quite well to stop the ear infections and whatnot.

I'm a working mommy and I totally understand.. Your supporting your family and your not taking handouts.. Good job mom!!
Can you get a second opinion? I would go to a different doctor or stress that you want other options and putting tubes in his ears is a last resort..
Remember, your a advocate for your son! Don't let them push you around..
Oh and both of my kids go to daycare and they are rarely sick.. They will have a stronger immune system when they attend public school..
