We found out yesterday we will be moving to GA a month sooner . This sucks because moving to another country is far from easy. I have alot to do. We don't have a clue as to where we are going to live, no clue of how the military works in America, we don't know what to expect pay wise, and seriously I don't understand how to pay bills. It is like I have lived on a different plant for the past 4 years. So my household goods will probably leave with in the next 2 weeks. And another suck factor is Chris can't go to WLC (a class) now so he can't get promoted before we leave... winch means he can't get promoted at least until 2012. SUCKS because the money would have been nice. I have so much to do and I don't feel like it hah! Jen and Shannon (mvt) gave me some good moving and organization tips so I am starting their! Any other moving advice is very welcome!

Anyone ever been to Ft. Benning?? I would really love to know some details about the post seeing that they can't tell me on the website anything other then the awards and crap they won... like I really care I wanna know what the px is like yo lol! Chris has been but only for basic so he didn't get around much.

A few questions for military peoples... Do they have MWR's in the states? How do you go about going to the doctor? Like do you call the health clinic or do you find your own doctor? Do you have to pay for any medical care? What about dental? I might have more later !

BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS............. I will get to meet Shannon (coconut) and my Jenny poo soon!!!!

Anddddd......... I will get to visit my family in Texas way more often!!

That's awesome that you're moving to GA. Sorry though about all the packing, etc. I've only ever moved once so I don't have much advice apart from making sure that you label everything (number your boxes, lists the contents and keep a inventory of where everything is.)

And I have no idea how stuff works in the US but good luck with everything.

i'm so glad you'll be back on planet north america soon!
i obviously have no clue about anything military related, but i'm sure our military wives will fill u in.
as far as moving, when we moved we hired a moving company and they came in and packed & labelled everything and loaded it on a truck. all i did was sweep up all the dust bunnies. if you can swing doing it that way i highly reccommend it.
if the military can't pay for your health care i will punch it for u. yes i will punch the miltary

Yay for moving!!! All the packing sucks and I'm sorry I don't have any military advice but I know you'll get some great pointers from some of the ladies here! We're very disorganized when we move, I don't recommend that.

LOL Sara I think you should punch the military for me anyways!

The army does have movers do all the main packing for us I just have to organize everything and watch them so I can label everything how I want it. But then after the packing comes the house inspection.... and were basically F'ed because our house was brand new when we moved in and it was built so ****** that every thing fell apart. So we know were gong to have to pay for some stuff.

I know you must be excited to come back to the states, but goodness I can't imagine the move! I thought moving across town was overwhelming! As far as bills are concerned... they are pretty easy, they can all be paid online through your bank. Have you ever done online banking?

And I'm sorry Chris is going to have to postpone his promotion... that does suck and doesn't make much sense to me that the military is doing that, but then again I know nothing about the military.

I do have online banking but that's another thing I need to do, switch banks. But thats good to know I can pay them online! I remember my mom sending in checks when I was a kid and I HATE dealing with checks!

Long explanation lol

Right now Chris is a promotable E-4 a Cpl. winch means he has all the responsibility of a Sgt. but not the pay. In the army you start out as an E-1 and work your way up. Well from E-1 to E-4 you earn rank by time and service. E-5 is a Sgt. and to be one you have to pass a board kinda like a big test and you have to go to a 2 week class... the one Chris can't go to now. And the job we are headed to is called "the career killer" because you can't rank up or go to any classes while doing it. BUT he can't get deployed so I feel its worth it!!!

i can't believe that they would make you pay for normal wear and tear on a home. like obviously its not going to be like new after someone lives in it.

and i agree that him not getting deployed would totally be worth it, that is so great for u and the landen!

Do they have MWR's in the states? Yup.

How do you go about going to the doctor? Like do you call the health clinic or do you find your own doctor?- For us, we have prime so we have to see the doctors at the base clinic. This is the first base I've ever lived at so I don't know how it works elsewhere, but here you call the central appointments phone number and they set up an appointment...if you don't specify they will automatically have you see your PCM.

Do you have to pay for any medical care? What about dental?- We have Tricare Prime so we don't pay for anything. Although if you read my posts back in the day about how godawful the doctors are here you might not want that

I'm not positive but I think my inlaws (FIL has been in the army for 27 years) have lived in GA at least once...I can ask and see if they have any insight for you.

!!
When you DH checks into his new command.. They will assign someone to him to show him around and register is family at the hospital,etc.. Each command is different.. If they have a small clinic, more then likely you'll get seen out in the civilian side.. If there's a big hospital, you have to go there for medical treatment.. As for dental.. I don't know.. I didn't have kids when I was in the service.. There should be a MWR there as well.. Or a USO.. They can usually help you.. And Medical should be free, unless you get seen out in town..

Good luck and happy moving..

Oh and save ALL of your receipts!! They will reimburse you for almost everything, down to food,gas,etc..

If you have any questions, just PM.. Hopefully I'll have some answers..

Edit:

Also tie up any loose ends where you are.. You don't want anything to come back in haunt you!

Im sure you can get some help from some neighbor's or something? I wish you were coming to CA though and not GA, but YAY for meeting Shannon and miss Lily!!!!

MWR-they should have programs but I'm really not sure how the Army works. The Marine Corps has MWR centers for the single Marines and then Marine & Family Services is geared toward families. I'm sure they have lots of resources though, I can't imagine they wouldn't, especially since I think that's a decent size base.

Tricare-You can be on Prime and still get seen out in town but it depends on the base clinic and if they're full or not. I lucked out and they were full so my PCM is out in town but I'm seen on base for OB care. I don't pay anything for either doctor. It's Standard that there are co-pays. There are costs involved with dental, look up United Concordia.

Have you tried contacting Military OneSource? They might be able to provide you with some resources to make the transition smoother. I think they send out packets about your new base and give you info for what you'll need when you first get there but I haven't needed to use them yet.

Good luck with the move!

How frustrating that he has put in the time and all he needs to do is take a class and a test! Grr... But that is awesome that he can't get deployed, I'm sure that makes you VERY happy!
