I'm in need of some tips.
Curtis has been doing great with peeing in the potty but he's really against pooping in it. He actually has said that poop does not go in it and that's wrong. I spent many frustrating months with him... but then I gave up and thought he just must not be ready. Now I'm ready to try it again. It's super annoying that he has to wear a pull up just in case he has to poop since he does SO well peeing!
He showed some interest in pooping in the little red potty (we moved him to the big one quite a few months ago)... I said that was fine and he can poop in there, as long as he stops pooping in the pull up.... so far no luck. Today I told him he can't wear undies or pants until he poops in the potty in hopes that he realizes he just can't go and will sit on the potty when the urge comes..... I'm SO outta ideas here
rewards don't help, atleast not snacks, candies or anything like that.
Any ideas, BTDT advice or anything???

I was gonna suggest just taking away his pull up. Going cold turkey in the hope he will realise pooping in the big toilet isnt too big thing.
Just make sure you fuss the heck outta him when he does eventually go poop on the potty

Take the pull up away. You will have some accidents, we did but taking it away really discouraged him on pooing in his pants. Seamus was older then him on Pting though cause I let him tell us when, he was almost 3 when he started peeing in the potty.
If he has an accident tell him it goes in the potty and have him help you clean it up.
But know it can take them quite a while to learn to poo in the potty, some even years. What my pedi told us is because they feel like a part of them is falling out and its scary.
You know what got Seamus to do it? He is really into wanting to go to school and I told him he can't go to school unless hes a big boy that poos in the potty, that day he did. We've still had a few accidents in the last few months and battle of wills but he mostly goes.
Edit: back to the pullup, from what I was explained from my pedi is that the pullup is too much like a diaper and tells them its ok to go in it, but if its gone it helps them want to go in the potty and not floor

Whenever he poops in his pull up or undies what do you do? I think that if you let him know that its not a big boy thing to do or have DH poop in the toilet and show him (kind of gross but thats besides the point) that its okay.
Do you guys play with any other boys his age. Maybe having one of them let Curtis know that they poop in the potty is okay.
I think that finding a way to discipline him in addition to him observing a man who poops in the toilet will help. I think girls are different from boys in that aspect, girls dont like to walk around with poop in their underwear, some boys dont seem to mind.

I started out commando with Taylor but she still has a problem with going in undies. I'm skipping pull ups all together. She's getting it though. She knows it's dirty and repeats all the stuff I've told her about needed to not go in her underwear. I always tell her she gets chocolate if she goes in the potty chair. When she's commando, which is most of the time , she goes to her own potty chair and doesn't tell me till she's finished. I have NO idea how to get her stop pooing or peeing in her undies, it's so annoying!!!

We didn't just go comando we went completely nakie, he had a few accidents like i said, but they were almost always on the lenolim by the stairs.'
Just reassure him thats its ok to poo in the potty. Oh and if you or dh don't mind it take him with you when you go, it may sound gross but if he sees you guys doing it he will know poo goes in there and that its ok

Thanks so much for the advice ladies. It really helps just to know you guys had to go through this.. even if it was easier or harder ya know??
So far he's told me 3 times that he has to poop and we've run to the potty. No poop yet... but I think this is a step in the right direction... just have to keep it up I guess.
He's on there now reading books lol.

Alright, we've had 2 successes!!! He's wearing undies now and actually takes them off and goes. TMI but he just did a HUGE poop in the potty.. bigger then he's done in his pull up (I suspect because nothing is stopping it ya know??) Anyways, I'm SUPER proud of him and we are currently celebrating like crazy!!!!!
Oh gosh I hope this is the start of something great!

Wooohooo for pooping on the potty!!!!!!
Does he seem to have a routine for when he goes? My friends son would always go around the same time every day...so she set up a little table for him in their bathroom with crayons and books and stuff and sit him on the potty. He would color and read until he went #2 and then he would get a sticker and that was that.

Nope he doesn't. He has a horrible poop system. He has spent too long fighting poop. No idea why but he's ALWAYS fought it... so basically he goes when it fights it's way out.... which is also why having him to such a big one is such a huge success
This whole topic is TMI I know but everyone will be here at some point lol!! So you all can squirm and say ew.. but it's YOU soon!! lol

Yay!! Glad he didi it. I'm scared of potty training. I just bought a potty and set it up so that Oliver can get use to it. He almost always comes with me when I use the toliet. He already sits on his potty when I sit on the toliet. He says "pee". I say yes.. poop and pee in the potty. I think he kind of knows what I'm saying but of course he isn't ready. I'm waiting on him and I'm guessing we have at the very least a year to go.

Thats what we did with Seamus, he loved sitting on his potty (but it got left when we moved back here) He one day got up on our potty at 33/34mo old and once his pack of diapers ran out he had no issues going pee on the potty.

That's what we did too Resi! At his 2nd birthday we got him a potty and he sat on it often. Then a while after I made him go naked and we got pee down perfectly!! He actually did poops in there.. but ever since moving to the big potty he stopped... I'm thinking he just wasnt comfy doing it in the big one?? Either way it's going well today
It's such a LONG process!

Justine and Steph - It's good to know what I'm doing is a step in the right direction! I know I will be needing some advice once he is ready to start using the potty.

Harrison just did the poop in the potty well from the beginning and really never had any issues other than a couple times he cried when the poop went in the big potty and down the drain I guess cause he was sad it went away....so I don't have any advice as to this exact situation.....but there have been things I want him to do and I got him to do it by doing the "prize box"..this is a shoe box I decorated and put little prizes in (all sorts of stuff - but he loves candy so its mostly candy - however if your son is into stickers, or goodies like silly putty whatever we also put that into it) if he does what I want him to do - he gets to pick one thing out of the prize box....it makes it really exciting cause its like "oh what will be in there" and for him lately it has been for staying in bed until the sun comes up so he'll run in in the morning (always after the sun comes up ...so it works) and check the prize box - its almost like the excitement of Christmas cause although he knows we put stuff in there its still exciting in their 3 year old brain to see stuff in there that wasn't in there that wasn't in there before.
Prizes and rewards always work for Harrison - he's very results oriented visually so success charts work...putting star stickers on a chart for every chore he does (or every poopie in your case). But if Curtis doesn't work with reward.......cold turkey might work like Emma said. If you just don't put the pull up on and he goes in his pants he'll soon realize that is gross - clean up takes away from his time playing etc. and its just faster, cleaner, easier to run down to the potty - poop in it - be done and go about playing. NO option but underwear works for alot of moms.
Have you asked at the potty training board?
Good luck Stephanie - keep us posted on what works.
Also steph maybe he needs some leverage on the big potty - do his feet hang down or does he have a stool to put his feet on to push onto...Harrison doesn't mind his feet hanging but some kids do...just a thought
