What is going on with the world? Seriously. How can something like this pass in any sort of law system? Basically it says that a woman can get up to life in prison if she does something considered reckless, including (but not limited to) drinking or smoking while pregnant, not wearing or improperly wearing a seat belt or staying in an abusive relationship which ends in a miscarriage.

Last I checked having an mechanical abortion (which IS the causing of a pregnancy to end prematurely) is legal in this country. I don't see the high law makers letting this go into effect. I see this as a political ploy to get roe vs wade overturned by pro-lifers.

wow not that I dont disagree that certain things shouldn't be done during pregnancy but life in prison? that's a bit far fetched... it'll never pass.

That is wrong on so many levels, but seriously, we are punishing women for their abusive SO??? Wow.

That is one heck of a slippery slope.

This definitely won't pass! I mean any lawmaker that supports it will now lose every woman voter for the most part! So what if I eat lunch meat while pregnant or stand in front of the microwave or, heck, CONTINUE TO RUN! Prove to me that I caused the miscarriage! Seriously! There has to be a burden of proof for someone to be found guilty of something. There is NO way to know for sure what causes any given m/c.

It did pass. It just has to go to the governor's desk to be signed.

That is absurd!!! Life in prison, seriously???

Now a lady in MD killed 2 of her foster children and abused the 3rd. She smothered them, stuffed them in plastic bags in the freezer for nearly 2 years (they were 8 and 10 when they were found back in 08). She got sentenced life without parole for that gruesome act and got sentenced 25 years for abusing the 9 year old (she was 7 at the time she was found wandering the streets all abused and bloody). The mother had collected a total of $152,000 for raising the children most of which was collected after she killed them.

Now that is a story where the mother deserves life in prison, not b/c of a miscarriage (premeditated or not). Are abortions banned too?

So you can abort but not miscarry? Who is the governor that is signing this bill? I would like to write him a letter! This can only lead to women hiding their miscarriages and then women that suffer an incomplete m/c will be in danger of losing their lives because they fear life in prison! Absurd!
