Has anyone heard/read about the new study done about introducing solids? I guess this new study is saying that waiting until after 6 months plus does not help with allergies. It even mentioned that waiting until a child is older to start solids can not help but bring them on? It was a little confusing.. in the end it said that EBF for 6 months and then starting solids is the best option.
I was listening to NPR today and it was on the sunday health segiment. I was trying to find an article but couldn't.

i have access to tons of academic databases with articles, journals, and studies.
i found a literature review that talked about introducing solids and briefly touched on allergies. it wasn't really too conclusive. if anyone wants to read it, pm me your email addy and i will send u the pdf.
it was from 2009, not sure if what you are talking about is more recent than that?
couldnt find any info about it on npr's website

Hmm I didn't know any of that. I always start solids at 5 months because they're still hungry and Rylie got mad because she saw Taylor eating and she wanted to too

Never heard of it but I'd be interested in reading it. Maybe they'll cover it in one of the Mothering magazine editions.

I will ask my pedi next time I see him. Maybe it is not an English language journal?
I thought this was common knowledge because this is what I have been told when we discussed starting solids with Jaxon. Apparently the 4-6 month time period is the best for several reasons, including that one.

Yes.. but the new study showed that waiting longer to introduce (like waiting to one year old) might cause the allergies.. so those who think waiting longer to introduce won't avoid the allergies if their child is going to have them. I guess that is what I got out of what I heard.

Good job, Resi. I am going to read through them when I get a chance.
And something a bit interesting- timing of solid introductions has only been linked to 3 conditions: hay fever, asthma, and eczema. Apparently if neither of the parents or the immediate family has these conditions, it is very unlikely the baby will either, no matter when you introduce solids.

I have hayfever and my FIL has skin problems. I started at 6 months after EBF and I was happy with that. I think I would do the same thing next time around. Oliver was so ready to start eating solids and if I made him wait longer he would not have been too happy.
