Didnt want to highjack Krista's thread. But I do have a question.

Do you think its a good idea and cheaper to buy a used pump from someone and then buy all of the parts that connect to my body separately? Or to just buy a new one?

I want to get the Medela PIS. Some people are selling theirs on CL that is wayy cheaper than in the stores. If I go that route, what extra parts will I need to get?

I'll be pumping a lot, Mostly Pumping, since I have to go to work after 8 weeks and want a reliable pump.

I think it is mostly personal preference and finances. I have been using 2 used Medela pumps. One was quite old and one new. Even EP'ing, they both have been wonderful. No issues with either. The pump I gave away was a Medela Traveller, which is from 2004, and that thing is amazing. I actually miss it, lol.

You will need to get new breast shields, valves and membranes, and collection bottles. This kit is everything: Amazon.com: Medela Breast Pump Accessory Set: Baby. For conveinence sake, if you will be pumping a lot, get tons of those collection bottles. I hear the Gerber ones fit and are not as expensive as the Medela ones. I have 12 of them. I store the milk in the fridge in these containers so I need a lot.

What I did was put a wanted ad on Craigs List. I said I wanted a new-ish PIS Advanced version (be sure to get this version, and not a really antique one, lol) that had not had a lot of use, and I was willing to pay $85 cash. That's a really low price so I didn't expect anyone to respond. But I did get a barely used one for that price, and I am thrilled with it.

Mine are both used. And I only bought new tubing. I boiled the other parts about 3 times before using them. And my PIS is now with a friend and her newborn.

I looked on CL. There are A LOT of Medela PIS Advanced in my area. most were used for only 4 months like once or twice a day. Going for anywhere between $80 and $175.

I'm glad I checked there.

I too say it's personal preference. I know a lot of persons rave about the Medela and they're top of the line but I got an Ameda double electric one and that worked fantastically for me. You could research other brands and see if any of them appeal to you as well. I usually use Amazon along with any other reputable sites like Cnet (if product reviews are available) to check things before I buy.

I went the cheap route until Kennedi was 4 months old then I got my PIS (through WIC for free) and I LOVE it!!! I love waking up and pumping with it. My other pumps SUCKED BUTT!
