I want to learn! Are there any websites you suggest that explain it the best? I want to make things for my future LO and my nephew really bad. There are just too many cute things to be made that I just want to know how to do! What things do I need to buy? How long does it take to learn? Is it really hard? Easy? Depends on the person?
Tell me everything you can!

I got a book/youtube/some websites.....none worked LOL I need to have someone SHOW me (and video wasn't cutting it). So I found a local group (its actually my mommy group) and just asked who knew how to knit and they have been helping me.
My next step was to volunteer at a nursing home! LOL

Youtube has great video tutorials, but if I need a refresher or anything, I go to this website:
NexStitch™ : Stylish Crochet Patterns, Videos, Articles & Newsletter!
They also make great "Learn to Crochet" books with lots of easy projects. I taught myself and it took a little while to get the technique down but I picked it up eventually. I've only been crocheting for about 2 years now - maybe even less! Once you get the basics down, the tough part is how to read patterns but before you know it you will be making all sorts of stuff.
I can't knit though - if I were going to learn how to do either of the two, I would have learned to knit first for sure. I just can't grasp how to do it by teaching myself, I need to take a class to learn someday.
I hope you learn and enjoy it - it is SO relaxing, I'm always working on something (I also do needlepoint, I'm like an 80 year old over here, hahaha) when I'm watching a movie or watching TV. I like to keep my hands busy.

Okay, Ive just finished watching a few long videos on youtube, then I realized they were all one knitting and not crochet Ugh! Can you tell me what the difference is in the two? What I want to be able to do is those adorable little beanies for babies, headbands, longies...etc.

i'm doing my first knitting project now i just used the little booklet that i got from the store, and then it kind of came back to me (i used to know when i was like 12 how to knit). i know knittinghelp.com is a site that ppl use, i havent been there yet though.
i think we should start a WTTCG Knit/Crochet Club thread! Or maybe that wouldnt get enough traffic to keep it going? hmm

I knit! I knit! haha I cheat... but I make things that are 'knitted'
I bought the knifty knitter things. So its like doing it on a loom instead of with needles. I wanted to make hats and scarves, so this works for me. And then I brag about how I knitted them, and everyone is all impressed, when in all reality it was just super easy and I'm basically cheating (and lying by omission )
the hats is a lot of wrapping yard around those things
and the scarves is a lot of wrapping yarn around one of these -
you can buy them at wal-mart or a craft store or whatever.
the hats I made Lily fit the best out of any of the ones we have. here's a couple pics
I don't have any pics of the scarves that I have made but they're awesome - my step-dad is like obsessed with them b/c they're "so much thicker than store-bought scarves"
Just figured I'd throw that out there in case you want to have finished product like tonight and then if you like it you could look into learning with needles. I know Breanna bought the knifty knitter and I think she was kind of bored with the whole process. It would suck to really learn and then not enjoy it or something.

I crochet because I can do it about 500 million times faster then I could ever knit. And I'm good enough now that like Shannon, I can also "fake knit".
This is the latest hat I've made for Nolan....he has so many now, it is ridiculous. Everyday that I am still pregnant....means another hat or two or three...hahaha. I'm going to need to go out and get more yarn soon.
Oh and for more inspiration....the latest set of longies that I've made!! They came out SO cute!!!
Shannon I love that picture of Lily, hahaha. She is like "*** IS THIS WHITE STUFF?!?".

Shannon - I had no clue they had those types of things! YES! That is perfect for me right now! Then I can get into the more complicated ones later on. So the only thing you can make with that circle one is hats right? And the only thing you can make with the long one is scarves right? Those are two of the things I want to make but I also want to make those crochet headbands for little girls too so I guess thats something I would have to learn to do and not be able to use one of those things!
Ughhhhh Heather! Im so jealous!
The videos I watched on knitting made it look SOOO easy, like i feel like i could just go home and do it...so im assuming thats not all there is to it and im missing something. I need to watch more videos! I think im gonna stop by hobby lobby tonight on the way home! How much yard does it take to make like 1 hat? Or 1 scarf? (an estimate of course)

One skein (ball) should be plenty for a hat - 2 should be plenty for a scarf. Just make sure you get about 200 yds for a hat and then 400 or so for a scarf. It all depends on how long of a scarf you want.
Baby hats are super easy - they essentially just take scraps of yarn, I always save my ends when I'm done making something and I've got tons of yarn to make hats with. So, always save your scraps!!

Knitting is so much fun you should definitely learn. It's not difficult at all, though if you're a visual learner, you may do like Angela and try to find a knitting group in your area.
knittinghelp.com has great videos.
Personally, I learned with an "I taught myself how to knit" booklet I got from Wal-Mart. I'm the opposite of Heather, I can knit but I can't crochet to save my life! The difference between the two is that knitting uses two (or more!) needles and crochet uses one hook.
If you do learn to knit or crochet, you must join Ravelry. It's the best website for knitters and crocheters, with forums and all the patterns you'll ever need.
And just because I'm super happy with them, I'm going to share the mittens I made last week
I don't make baby things anymore because I don't think there will be a little one for me to knit for (we've stopped TTC, long story), but I have tons of super cute baby sweater, hats and booties patterns if you ever need some.

Those are SO gorgeous!!!! I always envy how gorgeous knitted things look - you can't come close to making something that intricate with a crochet hook. You are very talented Caroline!!!
I second Ravelry....LOVE IT!!!!!
