I swear if one more person tells me "You'll get over it" when they find out I want to CD or give birth without pain meds I will ring their neck!!! Ugh I just think that is so rude! Is it that hard to be supportive instead of a pompous a.s.s.??! Why does no one have confidence in me to do these things successfully?!

Okay, rant over.

People like to go with the "norm"- average, or what most people do. Anything else often makes them uncomfortable. I think it's their discomfort, rather than a lack of confidence in you that is making them suck. Be confident and strong and you'll do whatever you like!

It's totally annoying! I get comments about BF and how annoying and time consuming it must be... are you kidding me?! Anyway, I'm sure you'll do just fine with both. Ignore the idiots!!

Ummm...people say that to me all the time and im not even pregnant yet! (when i tell them about the things I will do when im a mom) alot literally LAUGH out loud when I tell them I want a natural childbirth! Its something that is so common here on JM but IRL an extremely small amount of women do that in the area I live. Its so stupid!

I hope THEY get over it and leave you alone!

that is SO annoying. i am not looking forward to having to defend my choices when the time comes, luckily i have a friend nearby who had a home waterbirth so i've got one person on my side. As far as CD, i doubt i will really talk much about it to anyone.... i've been using cloth pads for a long time so if they wanna go there i'll just say "OH YA ITS EASY - IN YOUR FACE" haha ok maybe not but u get the point.

and i totally agree with you, its just plain rude to dismiss your choices as rediculous, like if they just wanted to act all high and mighty about it then why even ask....rude rude rude

Yea, a lot of the cheer moms first reactions when I mentioned that I'm going to CD were "Oh no!" Excuse me for being educated, financially responsible, environmentally friendly and looking for the BEST for my baby's bottom. I'm not even going to mention NCB until it's actually over. I just know they will laugh at me. Most of them had planned C-sections. At least we have our JM'ers!

I just don't say anything - it's not any of their business anyways.

My DH gets it at work (he works for a large company that is like a BABY FACTORY - he is always surrounded by pregnant women!) and they all ask him 100 questions every day about me. So when he mentioned that we were going to cloth diaper one woman was like "Well, tell your wife she is very lucky that she has the TIME to do that.".....my DH (who is extremely mild mannered, hardly ever raises his voice) said to her "Well, if she didn't have the time to do a load of laundry, I wouldn't have a problem stepping in to do it "for" her...in our home, we share the workload of the house". And don't get me started on natural childbirth - apparently they think I am some crazy hippie!!!

We found out yesterday that Nolan is a "larger" baby by my midwife's estimates and when he got back to work everyone wanted an update (nosy *****es!) and when he said how big they think he is the same woman was like "Oh well there goes her "natural childbirth" huh?". And my DH looked at her and was like "Well, you've never met my wife....this makes her more determined....bigger babies are easier to birth anyways...".

My poor DH. I can't imagine what I would do if I had to listen to that all.day.long!!!!

I couldve written this same post Krista. I know NO ON IRL who CD, I've only told a few and have gotten non-supportive responses from ALL. Some say "We'll see how long that lasts". I even told my baby sitter who agreed to CD but told me "See how things go first, and then we'll further discuss it when your maternity leave is almost up". I dont tell people anymore. I only plan on CD p/t, so i'm just buying my stash and getting things ready. I like to prove people wrong.

Natural childbirth I get mixed responses. But my BFF had a natural child birth and said "Make sure you do it natural, it was the best feeling ever!" Granted she only had like a 7 hour labor with about 40 mins of pushing. A host of other people I know who had babies, had c-sections. I plan on laboring at home for AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. The hospital is 1 minute from my house (driving), 5 minutes (walking)

That's really sad So frustrating and annoying.

I don't have many friends IRL. But the few I do are pretty supportive. I have a couple friends that CD as well. Most of my friends all did medicated births but I'm sure if they had short ones like me they would have done it med free lol.

I actually think it's funny cause I know I'm very blessed to be able to be a SAHM.. and James was even saying this one day, how not many moms have the ability to do so... I said "Well all my friends are..." hahaha. But I know what he means. I'm lucky to have a few friends that are similar to me. Now if only I would get invited to things They are a really tight knit group. ... okay that was WAY off topic!!

I hope you prove them all wrong!! I know you can!!

Man, people can be so annoying at times. Most persons that I told that I wanted a natural, un-medicated birth thought that I was super crazy and felt quite pleased with themselves in telling me that I'm only saying so and to wait until the pains hit me. I just ignored them.

Heather, kudos to your DH!

I wonder what kind of reactions Shannon gets when she tells people she was on mag and pit and still went without pain meds? I guess Shannon is super woman! (Well I know we think she is but you know what I mean!)

I felt the exact same way when I was pregnant. My boss even took a bet that I would fail at CDing (I did...but that's besides the point!) - I had a friend laught at me to my face when I said I wanted a NCB and assured me that I would change my mind and be glad that I got the epidural.

Regardless of what actually happens (I didn't CD and I did end up with an epi *sigh*) I would NEVER say those things. I have a friend who wants a NCP - I gave her my books, told her that she could do it, and told her that I was behind her 100%. Just because I didn't do it doesn't mean that she can't!

Some women think becaue they couldn't (or didn't want to) do it then another women won't be able to either. Try not to let them rain on your ideas of being a mother!

Oh and just wait until the baby is here. Then you get people making comments on your parenting choices. For me it's the child lead weaning and bedsharing. I bet some think I'm a lazy parent for doing it the way I do.. or think I'm too attached.

UGH! I just got one on my FB! I asked what kind of washers people have because I NEED a new one and a girl I USED to work with said "Cloth diapers-Are you crazy?!" I'm going to write a nice return comment in about five seconds because she also commented on one of my ultrasound photos basically insulting my mom!

Well screw them! I hate how unsurportive people are whenever you choose something not the "norm" or even when you do!
I know you can have an NCB or CD if that is what you want! Go for it and show them they are wrong!
Btw Krista I am so sorry I just realized I never asked my doula (I never did call her) about the 411 on the hospital you plan to deliver at. Do you still want me to do that? Might actually break the ice of me calling my doula to have a "reason" to call her.
